Drive a 2011 F11 530D ( Tourer ) – Had both rear suspension air bags replaced under private warranty in March ( passenger side had blown, but driver side was on its way so both replaced )

Car’s ride height was at least 2 inches higher once new bags were fitted.

Last week while driving to the Alps, the Passenger side blew ( we had a full load & 3 bikes on the Roof - but nothing exceptional ) Took me 2 days to get that repaired and got to our destination on the Friday instead of the Tuesday ! 45 mins into our return Journey on the Monday, the Driver side bag blew !!

The Car has now been back to the originating garage and the back driver side has also been replaced. The Car’s ride height is now lower , but it still looks high in comparison to other cars.

Is there a standard / recommended ride height for the 530D

I’m really concerned why both bags would go in that short time period and if it could be a compressor issue over inflating the bags under load?

BMW diagnostic software will tell you the correct height and let you set it.

Probably has a knackered pressure regulator.

There is a solenoid operated valve block that is known to stick that sits next to the compressor, this may cause the airbags to over inflate. If everything is functioning correctly the ride height should adjust itself after a decent run.

Air suspension an expensive option when new, but creates real problems as time goes on.
