It's either CBS or timed limit depending which comes sooner, I'm guessing the car was being used rather than just sat in a field prior to you receiving it? I had a similar issue with connected drive subscription I emailed them and they came back and gave me another 12 months extension, but you that will be no good to you so I guess you want them to pay for the service?

It is 2 years or xxx miles.

The car is now 2 years old, which means all the fluids are too, hence the need to replace them.

Are you the first registered keeper on the V5?

If you are I would argue the fact that they didn't mention it was nearly a year old when you bought it, and because of this it may be nice of them to do the first service free of charge to make up for it?

Buy the way, buying from stock it is really down to you to ask when it was produced, so go. bit easy on them.

Cars can often sit for far longer than 8 months.

There were loads of 5 series sold on 09 plates that were early 2003 cars.
They found a storage unit with them full of cars that they had forgot about.

Back in 2009 when the credit crunch happened there were fields full of Mercedes that sat unsold, some were not registered till 2103.

I cannot get them to see the injustice of their stance and they refuse to move. How can the car be 8 months into its service life at point of delivery/registration?.
It should have been reset at PDI. Dealer has messed up.

Surely, each time you switch ignition on it says ‘next service xxxxx miles or mm/yyyy’
Why has the time limit come as a surprise?

Solution:

1) Change oil and filter (cost £50.23, this includes a Mann filter, Mann filter will not invalidate your warranty due to block exemption laws, or buy a gen BMW filter for £8 more if non gen parts concern you, 10l BMW LL04 approved oil-correct type for your car)

2) Reset CBS

Sorted.

(Nb-this will not add an entry to the silly “electronic service book”. But receipts for the parts&oil will be real tangible proof of purchase as opposed to a nonsense e-service record that can be amended by anyone with the correct software).
