Hi Folks,

Just picked up a 150k mile E60 525i (M54 Engine).
Its been well cared for over its life but the transmission has never been touched, all good at the moment but would like to flush to ensure it stays healthy.
Anyone know a place in the midlands that can do this properly?

My E61 auto box needed a recondition at 146k. I suspect a flush may be wasted money if clutch packs are nearing the end of their serviceable life.

You may be right, no issues at all with the box at the moment...maybe I should not temp fate and touch it? On the other hand getting in early before there is an issue could extend the life. I looked at the DIY and just a simple oil chance (refill/flush) I could do for £60 with the correct ZF transmission oil.

May be worth giving Stourbridge automotive a call for some advice. They are not too far from Hagley and about 15 minutes from M5 junction 4.

Driver Transmissions can do this in Moseley, Birmingham. Another choice is Autobahn, in Halesowen. The latter is a BMW specialist.

It's not as simple as drain the oil, drop the pan (which houses the filter), put on new pan, refill the oil. The oil must be adjusted to the correct level at a very limited temperature range while the engine is running; you need the correct software to ensure you do this properly otherwise you risk an incorrect fluid amount which will result in a not-very-nice transmission.

For what it's worth (and it's too late for you anyway), ZF state the fluid and filter should be changed every 60,000-80,000 miles.

Midland Automatic Transmissions in Kettering did the ZF8 in my ex 530d. No problems at all. Full diags before and after also included. They allowed me to provide my own fluid and filter.
