My 2014 520d is currently at Sytners waiting for parts to be available. They have confirmed an issue with EGR cooler that will be replaced as part of the recall.

The EGR value also needs replacing - at this stage they can’t confirm whether this will be covered as part of the recall, as may be a separate part number. So the EGR valve element would be chargeable.

Anyone else with experience of the EGR value needing replacing separately to the EGR cooler?

Thanks.
You won't get it under the recall. End of.

BMW are doing cooler and valve separate now unlike they used to where one part number covered both.

My neighbour's 2015 F10 LCI 535d went in to Specialist Cars on Friday (I happened to be in the dealership at the time), and they gave him a 'house' courtesy car - a 68 plate 335d X Drive. He had been a very good customer of theirs for years though; combine this with their apparent lack of parts backlog at the moment, and he had a result (in my opinion only, as usual).

Hi All. My first posting - very interesting reading all your woes on the EGR catastrophe. I’ve got one too. It’s a 2013 530d GT LCI. Went in for its recall check at end of November and was passed as OK. Following week I noticed the first slight hesitation followed during December with engine light and later ‘drive with caution’ message on screen. Due to Christmas fortnight dealer had nobody to advise. Took it in 2nd Jan and not allowed to bring it home. Hole in intake manifold and soot all over everything. Over 6 weeks and dealer still has no idea of when parts might arrive. Mine even needs a decoke so all very worrying. Got a Mokka diesel auto which is a real bone shaker. It does go well though and wife likes its size for parking. It’s got a great heater, much better than my F07. Dealer liaison has been very good with weekly contact even when no news. My 4th BMW after 3 e39 diesels. All did well over 200k miles with nothing like this! Cheers

I had the EGR valve replaced at c52,000 under warranty and it's booked in for the cooler to be replaced.

Looks like some parts are now coming through for the 6-cylinder cars; finally got my F31 335d back last Friday (just under six weeks from when it was impounded).

My wife's 116d was dropped off at Specialsit Cars on Friday and we've been given a Vauxhall hire which does the job. But does anyone know long the lead time is for parts on a 4 cylinder engine?

Not sure. There are a few part numbers affected it seems. My EGR Cooler part number was 11717823210 and took 10 days once they had my car. Your part number looks like 11717810751. Different despite both cars having the 2.0 4 cylinder engine.

Hi all,
My 4 series m sport has been impounded by Bmw Lancaster Milton Keynes. Been told extreme risk of catching fire and can't have my car back. No idea of repair date as they are waiting for parts...told me they have already had 1 for 4 1/2 weeks.....
It's annoying, but I sound like 1 of the luckier ones as have been given a 2018 320d msport estate. Which is ok. Enterprise dropped it of the next day and showed me the invoice for bmw which is £1190 every 2 weeks.....so want to but can't really complain.

My 2014 330d was declared dangerous when it went in for the recall last week and impounded - but BMW are paying for me to have a 320d M Sport from Enterprise while waiting for a part. Interestingly, the coolant level warning light had come on the previous morning, although I could see plenty of coolant in the header and the warning did not reappear when I restarted the engine.

The amusing/scary thing was that when I was told I couldn't have it back I went back to the dealer to pick up some stuff out of the car. The nice young lady on the service desk said she'd bring my car round to the front so that I could transfer things but then came back looking sheepish and said she was wasn't allowed to even drive it that far! And the week before I'd done about 700 miles up to Scotland and back!

Does anyone know exactly what spec changes the replacement EGR parts have? My dealer says they are definitely different but he doesn’t know what that difference is! Obviously they don’t want them all coming back in a couple of years time.
Are the 6cyl and 4cyl much different in design? Reading your posts it sounds as if more 4cyl are getting out than 6cyl. My 530d will be 8 weeks in on Wednesday!

Hi Richard,
Is yours under a used car warranty? Interested how they were gracious with a 320d from Enterprise ! I still have a 1.6 Astra since 19th December biggrin

My plot got even more interesting on Friday, I had enterprise calling me up saying "BMW haven't been paying their bills and haven't been extending the hire periods on these cars". Enterprise want customers to start phoning back BMW to encourage them to pay up!

The best bit... worst case scenario, Enterprise will start charging me (and others no doubt) for the hire and I'll have to recover that from BMW.

The whole situation seems to get more laughable as time goes on.

I've had mine from new and it's under the BMW insured warranty and emergency service - I don't know if that makes a difference? I noticed that the hire agreement was only for a week and phoned up the dealer and Enterprise to check the day before it expired and was told that BMW would continue to keep renewing for as long as necessary. Hope you get your situation sorted soon.

Well this is fun (not)...

- Car due for recall inspection the other week.

- Call them the day before that I had heard about delays in parts supply on social media etc, the youth in the service dept said he had heard of it elsewhere but did not think it was a problem at their branch in Norwich. - So i decided to take it in.

- Took car in for inspection - This service person said mine should be OK as they were looking at around 30 cars per day and most were OK.

- Went away in my courtesy 2 Series (horrible car) and then had the call that afternoon..my car had failed the test and would have to be fixed...this service person admitted that there was a delay on the part supply (ie no known date when they were expected in yet!), and were currently holding around 40 cars waiting for parts

- Came back in to give the 2 series back and met the nice lady from Enterprise with my new wheels for the next few weeks. Asked for something bigger than usual with sat nav...got a Hyundai Touson(?).....oh my god....1.6 litre petrol soft-roader...couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding. and was a manual...6 gears of waste, with 6th gear at 40mph, so what is the point of all those gears!...oh yes, plus they wanted £120 to cover insurance!

- a week and half later...BMW still have no idea when the parts are due in. Enterprise still cant find a better car than the one I have (Apparently the BMW recall has taken all the good ones!) ....and.....

Just found out where my car will be for the next few weeks!: https://www.edp24.co.uk/news/cooper-bmw-norwich-st...

You cant make this stuff up!

...anyone planing some form of group action against BMW to claim the lease car insurance and maybe Enterprise upgrade expense...I would join it!

;(

Thanks Richard.

That must be the difference yes. Mine is a 62 plate 330d Touring, purchased from BMW Oldbury in May 2016 but I did not extend the warranty past the first year. Only me to blame for that one in this case!

This is identical to what has happened with our 2015 330D. BMW have had it a month now after they ascertained it did not have one of the definitely faulty parts but had failed the pressure test that they also have to complete.

Similarly, this is the same for us too, so makes sense.

My 2012 640d went in today and has been impounded too. They reckon 3-4 weeks and looks like I'm getting an Insignia as the warranty expired. Lols all round with that one.

I knew it would be kept in as I lost a lot of coolant about 6 months ago and then got an EML on about 7 weeks ago which I then checked through Carly. Errors below if this helps anyone.

I’ve just been catching up on this today, as my 420d was impounded today at Northampton, I have been told it will be at least 2 weeks frown. Waiting on a call from bmw to arrange a hire car, as I still have the service curtesy car currently. Will have to see what they offer me as a hire car..
