Sounds reasonable to me considering the base 3 series has been announced today at £33k.

Worth waiting to see what BMW do in the way of discounts in the coming period....it might tempt me if I can convince my wife.

But I do love my 640D GC, completely different cars I know.

I've spent today enquiring with a few dealers now they're up on the configurator. Seems to be a bit of inconsistency between them on whether any movement on price is possible this early and firm delivery times.

Also slightly disappointed BMW UK appear to have restricted the choice so much. All the European markets get a lot more freedom on option choices (i.e. you can spec Harman Kardon or Active Cruise on their own) but here everything is bundled into expensive packs. Not clear why, can't be WLTP if it's not the same in other markets. And it's nice that Metallic paint is free but only 4 colours to choose from frown

Still I'll be chatting to them again tomorrow and will hopefully have something ordered this week! It was always going to be touching £50k for the M40i which I think is justified by the high standard spec and M2 levels of performance with it's recent 7.55 'ring time driving

The thing is at close to £50k it puts itself right up against a 718 Boxster. I wouldn't want to order one without knowing what it was like to actually drive. My m240i is far from being a sports car, and the previous Z4s have not been sports cars either dynamically. Maybe it will surprise us but I think it will be more GT. For that money it would be the 718 everytime for me, likely dynamically superior and almost as quick in a straight line. It may not have a 6 cylinder engine but the x40i isn't particularly
characterful. No doubt the Porsche is less well equipped as well, but as a driver's car I can't see it coming close.

Me too, would never buy a new model unseen

In any case, all things considered, it’ll likely be heavily discounted within a year of launch as every other BMW is unless they severely limit the supply.

Well I got my order in today! Went for the M40i (obviously) in Black Sapphire with Ivory White leather. Turns out the spec I posted on the previous page isn't offered in the UK so decided on this instead. Added the 'Driving Assistant Pack' which includes Active Cruise and Lane Assist. Came in at £49,950 so a shade under £50k. Very happy will be an awesome car for the money. Can't wait to be back behind the wheel of a BMW, now for the long wait until March... biggrin

Sounds like a great colour combo. Is it manual or paddle?

Seems broadspeed are saying there’s a discount of approx £5700 available. Any more orders in yet?

Had to resubmit my order today as when I enquired on the status it turned out the spec was wrong and missing some of my options mad

Still hoping for a March delivery!

Your spec looks great. I’m sure it’ll be worth the wait.

I thought the first ones were going to be a launch edition. I assume they’ll be the first in then the orders.

I'll be getting a 30i in May through work car scheme, not a car I'd ever consider buying but hey looking forward to testing it out! Right now though I can't find any reviews or videos relating to the 30i, I'm interested to know how it sounds and drives. Mines an M-sport, but i think all 30i's are.
Spec is:
Black Sapphire Metallic
Magma Red Vernasca Leather with contrast stitching (<- not on the configurator?)
Gloss black interior trim
M-Sport Plus Pack
Comfort Pack
Technology Pack

EDIT: Magma red is not the UK configurator at the moment but is on german configurator. And 30i is available in both m-sport and sport trim.

Sounds good, congrats on the order thumbup

I think the 30i will suit well as it gets good reviews in other BMWs. Obviously won’t have the soundtrack of the M40i but still fast and better on fuel

I’m expecting mine to arrive in the next 3-4 weeks. My chosen spec has also disappeared of the UK configurator so I’m not quite sure what’s going on there! silly

Had my name down for the first one at my dealers, even went to see it in the flesh!
But withdrew my deposit recently, as tbh couldn’t really get that excited over spending £50k+ on it..
shame really, as the concept cars looked stunning...frown

If I get one to replace the Z4MC, it'll have to be the Toyota Supra, as I don't do roadsters.

But can't see me replacing the Z4MC anytime soon, it's only just run in at 163,000 miles!

Hi.
Had thought about getting on of these.
Have gone for a new 718 Boxster.
Manual box every time for me.
No choice of a manual on the Z4.

I had a short drive in a 20i version at the weekend. Interior very good, especially good seats I thought. Ride and handling much much better than previous versions of the Z4 I've driven, the ride had a nice suppleness to it, while steering had reasonable feel too. I wish the suspension on my m240i was as good.

However, my goodness it was slow and the engine a bit bland. I'm not in the market for one but suspect the m40i version will make a decent drive as long as they don't ruin the suspension, although I suspect I'd still go for a boxster at that money.
