BMW 320 d swirlflaps
Discussion
Hi got a 2005 BMW 320d done about 143000 miles on the clock and when we start it up it seems like it is missing really bad and no throttle then after a couple of minutes its ok but the employee light comes on and we read codes and came up with p3263 .p1378. and p0402 and one was egr valve and also swirl flaps .cleaned egr valve and seemed a bit better but still not right could it be swirl flaps and if I was to buy blanking kit does it have to be mapped out thank
No remapping needed on my E39 530d and would guess your 320 is the same. Just remove the flaps and replace with blanking plates but leave the servo in place and connected to fool the ECU that everything is as before. We ended up taking the inlet manifold off to gain access so replaced the manifold to head gaskets. Having said all that it may have ingested a swirl flap in which case rather more work may be required.
Great guide to blanking swirl flaps on M47/M57 here

I did it on my 2007 520D back in May - easy enough job, just take care not to drop anything inside engine
Swirl flap sticking might have that effect I guess depending on where they are stuck.

Hi sorry not been on but been busy my mates BMW 320 d on 2005 plate and as in previous stuff it is still playing up when you first start up it feels like its misfiring bad and no throttle and after a while it will be ok put code reader on and came up with codes p4212, p 1278, p 0402 ,and p3263 could it be swirlflaps as he has changed egr valve thanks
Swirl flaps won’t cause it to run lumpy unless they have broken off and gone through the engine - but if that happened it would be lumpy all the time. Is it high mileage? Could be heavily coked up or could be, as said, glow plugs
Actually p3263 is “calculated to measured air mass too low” fault - which used to come up with coked up inlet valves. Could also be due to air leak or egr staying open.
P0402 is egr flow too high which also shows egr may be staying open when it shoudnt be. Might be worth disconnecting vac line to egr and leaving disconnected and visually confirming egr valve is closed to rule that bit out at least
