2000 year BMW 318 in Indonesia

Folks, hoping you can help with a crash course what to look for guide to a 2000 year BMW 318 (E46) that I am going to go look at here in deepest darkest East Java.
Relatively speaking it’s a cheap banger to go with the Gen 4 Honda Civic that we already have. Save to assume that it will have more miles on it than the Millenium Falcon, it’s a 318 Auto 4 door on what looks like small (origional) 16” BMW alloys.
Also safe to assume that it has been serviced by Muhammed the local Mechanic (wherever it may have been) at something well over recommended service intervals with whatever was to hand that roughly fitted, and with no specific BMW expertise.
Fortunately rust is not an issue here on any car, but what should I be looking out for when kicking the tires and what are difficult things to fix without specialist tools or knowledge.
