bmw recall - what a strange state of affairs!
Discussion
Just dropped my 520D in at North Oxford BMW for an EGR change. Suspected 4 week wait for the part...
Got a BRAND new 520i touring with 13 miles on the clock as a courtesy car. - I hope it takes ages to fix mine. :-) They has to take the price tag of £41k out the window before I drove off 😂👍🏼

I don't have an issue with BMW recalling the cars early. Safety is of paramount importance, however I budget for my car as I need something of that standard for my job. To be given a replacement car that isnt of the same standard, whilst they are fixing their mistakes/errors with the vehicle I purchased from them, it just isnt fair.
My car is in the service centre now, if it needs to stay in for a few weeks and I get a Hyundai I'm taking legal action.

Looking at FB, seems a lot of people are reporting damage to the cars after being 'in-care' of BMW dealers for a long period of time [waiting for the parts to come in stock]. Not a great situation for you guys.
I wonder if there's the option to keep the car at home and still be issued a courtesy car? Saves the dealer having to worry about it [or not worry about it, if people are getting their cars back with damage].

Yeah, ok.My car is in the service centre now, if it needs to stay in for a few weeks and I get a Hyundai I'm taking legal action.
Good luck with that one.
Here's a clue.
The dealer did not design, build or manufacture your car, BMW did, the dealer is only acting on what BMW tell them to do.
Oh, and there is not an unlimited supply of BMW courtesy/hire cars lying around just in case you 'must' have one.
I'm sure you will cope in your job in a Hyundai or whatever just as well as your BMW.
Millennial snowflake.

A few days or a week - I could cope with a Picanto or similar.
My car was bought for towing my caravan, amongst other things, so long term, I would need something capable of pulling 1800kgs + dog.
X5 or Datsun Navara: I know which I'd prefer, but I don't know if I could argue against either.
I've a petrol car, so hopefully won't need to make the choice!!

In my opinion, this situation is an absolute shambles by BMW and, as I've said on another thread, if they cannot repair your car within a couple of weeks they should have a "buy back" scheme offering what it would cost to replace your car with an equivalent used one from a BMW dealership.

My 330d has been at the dealer for over 2 months now and I've been relatively lucky in that I have a 320d hire car as a replacement (probably because I have the BMW extended warranty). If I had been forced to drive around in a nasty little car for the past 2 months I too would be absolutely livid! Why should someone spend the money on a supposed decent car like a BMW and then end up driving a much cheaper car? If I was happy driving a cheaper car I would have bought a cheaper car and saved some money. A day or two is OK - but not months! You'd have to be a bit of a sad individual to think that was acceptable!

We've just been contacted because the 335D is booked in for a service and the EGR recall check tomorrow - having pushed it back by a few months because the parts were out of stock. And now the parts are still out of stock...
I telephoned the Dealer after they had my car for three weeks 520 Touring They told me my car could be weeks,
So I complained the Crapjar would not do, next day they said come in to the dealership we have is a 900 mile 530e M Sport for the duration Just ring the dealership and see what they can do.

I'm with you on that one to be fair - taking legal action because BMW are adressing a safety fault at their own expense, even giving out a free car to use without any worries about servicing it or anything? take the stty little car, go do some track-days with it, maybe enter a hill-climbing event. Take it down some green-lanes, use it to teach the kids how to drive, all that. have some fun, and when you get your BMW back (all fixed and shiny) you can go back to worrying about your car and getting up in the night to ensure its stil there, and inspecting it each time before you drive just in case there's another stone-chip that warrants yet another full respray...'Hi boss, sorry I won't be in work today because I'm having to drive this crappy Hyundai, don't know when I'll be back in'

Boothd8 could always wear a badge on his head with holes for his eyes if he’s embarrassed to be seen in anything other than his precious BMW.
Consider this: if you’d actually bought a Hyundai instead of the BMW, the odds are your car wouldn’t have been recalled in the first place. Hyundai have a much better reliability record than BMW does.
