I’ve just ordered my first brand new car. It’s a BMW 330i M Sport Shadow Edition, Touring in Mineral Grey.

19” M sport Alloys
M Sport starring Weal
M Sport Brakes
M Sport bodywork

I’ve got 11 whole weeks to wait for delivery, feels like 11 years!

My options list is massive:
Panoramic Roof
Comfort Access
Professional Media Package
Advanced Parking Package
Folding Mirrors
HUD
Surround View
Black Dokota Leather with blue M spot stitching
Apple CarPlay
Digital Cockpit
Interior Comfort Package
Harmon SoundSytem
Steering wheel heating
Heated seats
Adaptive LED Headlights

The ability to design your perfect car is incredible, I’m beside muse with excitement. I can’t wait to see it in all its grey and black glory!!

I’m upgrading from the first car I bought after passing my test in 2015, a 2009 1.6 Audi A3 sport back, I think it’s going to be quite an upgrade!!!

What’s the first thing to do when you get a new car?

I’d liked to get it mapped/chipped, any recommendations or do’s n don’ts?

I’m also considering getting the alloys filled black to match the car, thoughts?

Here’s a render of what it will look like:

Alloys look crap in black, makes the tyres always look dirty brown, go ferric grey or Orbit grey.

Can I ask you how much discount you got?

I was weighing up buying a slightly used one vs discounted new or waiting and ordering the new model G31?

Ah ok, thanks for the tip!

I got 35% off, but a very kind family member is a BMW salesmen.

I’d never get that type of discount on the G31 and I’m certainly not waiting for them to come out either. By the time I’ve grown board of this, the G31’s would have come down in price, but I’m hoping to move up to a 5 series by then

Thanks.

That is my thinking too.

I nearly bought a new 5 series touring, nice discount, but went sensible and bought a 2015 LCI 520d Touring instead.

Big mistake, I hate diesel and economy is crap on it.

I got an E92 320i coupe as a part ex on my old car and love it.

Hence thinking an F31 330i would be perfect.

Hmm? I need to have a think. Cheers.

I'd be cautious of remapping a brand new car, warranty issues etc.

Are there any options for imrpving performance without warranty issues?

I went for a top of the line 330i instead of a basic 340i, I don’t know if I’ll miss the power difference, but it would be good to have some options if I do...

Yes, buy the 340i instead, or a 335d.

I live in inner London, I wouldn’t utilise the extra power enough to justify removing the comfort options selected.

Well its a bit of a jump from your A3 so I would get used to the car first before doing a remap etc plus warranty will be void if they find out and it goes belly up!

Well done chap!

Don't remap it, not worth the insurance & warranty agro. Really don't bother.

Spend the money & time detailing it & maintaining it 'better then new'. That will make you smile more.

No need to remap it mate, 250 bhp is more than enough and it being a turbo, it will have plenty of torque. If you do get bored of the power (which will take a while), BMW offer various Power kits that retain the warranty, they are pricey and give moderate power gains but you retain the warranty. I got quoted 1200 pounds fitted on my 430d but decided against it as my car has more than enough power.

Also, leave the wheels as they are, they look really nice with the two tone look as do mine.

If you spray them black, once the car gets dirty, the wheels won’t even stand out, they’ll look smaller, especially if your car is mineral grey.

Ok so remapping is off the table, thanks for the BMW power upgrade tip. I am getting ahead of myself as it’s 2.5 x more powerful than my current car.

Maintenance is going to be a priority.

???? but on Thursday you said:

“ ...did however decide that I couldn't live with the smaller 3 series for doing 25k a year, too harsh and too noisy. So I went out a couple of weeks ago and bought a 2015 520d Touring with the new B47 engine.
I have to say the engine itself is quite shocking, but shocking in a good way, I am amazed at just how refined it is in day to day use, and also amazed at how well it drives for 190hp”

Make your mind up Giz! wink

I know, but since then I have been driving around in an E92 320i, and so much prefer petrol. Don't get me wrong, the current 4cyl diesel is still amazing me in regards to refinement and power, but that is in context, and the MPG from it is, quite frankly st!
The 520d on the 6 mile school run is worse MPG wise than my 3.5 litre, 306hp E350 estate MPG wise.
Plus jumping from the 320i to the 520d you really notice how nice petrol is.

I think I have made a mistake with the 520d, I knew I was not going to love it engine wise of course, but I thought I would enjoy the 45mpg+, reality is more like 35mpg calculated, that is only 2mpg better than the 530d
and 4mpg better than the E350 petrol. Which is pissing me off already.

It is impressive in many ways, but let's be honest, the only reason to buy diesel, especially these days, is to dave money, this is not doing that.

I think I will wait for the G21 3 series to come out and then decide, if I swapped now I might regret that in a couple of weeks, the 5 series is nice when coming out of London after a long day and knowing you still have an hour and a half before you get home, and I would miss that.

Well done and congrats on the new car!
I'm going from a 320i to a M140i and the bump up in power is brilliant!
Enjoy the new car smile
