Engine Management light in 1 series

Hope somebody here can pass on some wisdom !

Purchased today in a private sale a 2009 BMW 116 and driving home a warning light came on.

Its a picture of an engine with half coloured in orange.

The book does not sate a lot really just something about reduced power due to a fault, although the drive / power seemed unaffected.

is this likely to be something basic , such as ?? or a symptom of something more serious ?

Anybody has such a warning light on their 1 series ?

You need to read the fault memory.

The N43 engine of doom. Fault codes first, but expect a decent sized bill - they're not very good alas.
