Hi, does anyone have problems with the DAB signal being lost in their 720s?

I have a 2016 650 with DAB so it may be older technology, it’s not bad but it does tend to lose stations and want to retune from time to time

Yup, drops out in certain areas, the 570 was the same.

Yeah, my 720 DAB was very poor, I couldn't get a single AM station either.

Is there a fix for it, or is it just one of the McLaren foibles? On a car of this value, it’s a pretty poor show.

There is a hard reset you can perform, by holding down the power button for about 30 to 45 seconds, it will reboot after 10 or 12 seconds, but keep the button pressed.

It helped a few times on mine, in the end, DAB stopped working completely and I ended up having a new tuner fitted under warranty (2015 650s).

Welcome to the world of McLaren.

In the 7 days/500 miles since buying a 570S last week, had several minor faults (including DAB dropout, key not found, etc). Most annoying of which is the alarm has started going off randomly 10-15 secs after setting. Bit of a joke really that they can't get even the basics right.

Is your car a brand new 2019 vehicle, or is it a used, older car?

I'm asking because the trend for the moment seems to be that the newer, '18/'19 cars are fine w.r.t build quality, but the earlier cars were... Not. My (technically) 2017 720S was not particularly great in the build quality department.

Not true in all cases though. Although you did say "trend" so I'm, probably nitpicking.

Yeah, just some really casual observation based on people complaining on the forum etc.

My car was technically a 2017, as I mentioned, and had a decent chunk of issues. Some people like LotusJas have much newer cars and say they have none. So wondering if it's just build refinement over time. May not be, however. Be a damn shame if cars being built 2 years down the line have not been refined or had any of the issues sorted at the build stage.

Mine was an 18 and also had a chunk, luck of the draw I suppose. Once the stories start circulating I suppose it becomes a bit self-fulfilling, still great cars though, just can be annoying if the issues keep popping up one after another and spoiling the experience.

Reg'd Nov 2016 and just serviced by McLaren,

Maybe random alarm fault linked to soft close doors, which seems an unnecessary complication anyway, it isn't hard to shut a door.

Mine is a 2018 model with 1500 miles on the clock. The DAB constantly drops station. Some of the interior trim rattles. I have resorted to pushing small pieces of cardboard between the door trim to stop vibrations. There is a ‘clunk’ at the rear of drive train when setting off cold - only occurs when first moving off.

One major issue is that I am addicted to the accelerator and my driving license is on the verge of being taken away. The 720S is a rocket.........

McBristol will sort out the snagging list.

Can confirm that Mac Bristol will jump through every hoop to set the car straight. Luke, Noel and Co. down there are phenomenal.

.
My '18 also clunks from the rear when cold I have speed bumps up my road which seem to highlight it, noise goes away once warm. No interior creaks or noises tho'

I find that DAB is pretty intermittent in all the cars I own/ have owned especially in hilly country - it's more a problem with the poor external DAB signal rather than the receiver?

DAB is pretty much unusable in every car I've ever used it in. I've found that in the M3, it's so bad that you maybe get 10 seconds a song.

Had DAB signal drop out issues in our E Class Merc, in the C63 before that too. However, the DAB in our Mustang Bullitt (2019MY) has been excellent. Go figure?

Autocar even bring up the issue > "POOR DAB RECEPTION It can’t be easy as a carbonfibre tub and aluminium body probably doesn’t make the best aerial".
