Which version of the NBT (Next Best Thing) does it come with, there are two versions, NBT and NBT Evo.
It's essentially the iDrive version and the latter is the better

Take a look: https://www.bimmer-tech.net/blog/item/54-bmw-cic-n...

The 333M 20" wheels that were on the E70 X5 were prone to corrosion, diamond cut wheels, poor design around the centre caps.
If the X5 you're looking at has diamond cut wheels, ask if there is any warranty against corrosion.

Which model?

There’s so many to choose from with a long list of optional extras.

I have had 4 X5’s including 1 F15 50D which was a great car.

Not quick but had sufficient to get past cars on the motorway.

Over three years and 30,000 miles I don’t think I had a single issue aside from wheels corroding which the dealer changed without question.

Must be a M-Sport then if 20" rims?

Is that it with the options list, just the 20" rims, Winter Pack, HUD and Pano roof?...... nothing else?

No audio upgrade, no reverse camera etc?

Aah......thats better thumbup

I've got the factory leccy towbar on my F15, the uprated towing is just extra cooling capacity/spec for the engine and transmission coolers etc., which is a nice to have even if you never tow anything.

Sounds like it has the 'must have' options.

Mines a Sept 2016 and in the lower tax bracket as I 'think' late 2016/17 it changed so maybe worth checking.

Check brakes and tyres as may need changing at that mileage and also when the next service is due. About that mileage / timescale is a major service. I dropped a massive bk when I booked mine in and got shafted for £700 with all the add ons.

Great cars though. Took me a while to warm to it but now I've had it a while its such a capable do all bit of kit.

After much to-ing and fro-ing I am about to get my X5 as well, I currently have a 320d Touring M Sport, paddles, NBT Evo, but no reverse camera. NBT Evo came out with 2016 (66) reg onwards on the LCI (facelift) models.

My X5 is a 2015 M Sport, no camera but I will retrofit one. Watch out for Air Suspension (compressor and air spring bellows) faults. Some compressors fail because of too much moisture in the system, they have dessicant beads (silica gel) which when worn out cause the system not to raise car suspension properly. Apparently the dessicant beads can be replaced rather than the whole compressor smile

Invest in a Faraday Pouch to keep the Relay Box Thieves away... wink

Enjoy your test drive! All X5's have air suspension, I'm sure your car has been looked after if from a main dealer, but do ask about the EGR recall ( some fluid called glycol can leak from somewhere in or near exhaust system, causing unburnt soot to be flammable, I think :P ), this is done gratis by BMW, I had to wait over 4 weeks as there was a parts delay from Germany.

Hopefully picking mine up tomorrow, having had said suspension checked before handover wink

Only air units on the rear suspension though.

Test drive went well as expected, no recalls on this car or due.
Tail gate did creak from the start but soon stopped.
Steering was very light didn’t expect that, and the power is enough for me for the size of car, had to be spritely as p/x the f type!
The towbar is mint lol.

My wife has a 2018 40d... steering is light. But you can stick it into sport mode to artificially stiffen up the wheel action if you prefer.

They are nice cars with a decent lick of speed if reqd. Great for Motorway bashing, lots of torque.

We’ve averaged 30mpg in 20k.

End of quarter dealer sales figures I would suggest.

we've had our X5 40D for 2.5 years now.
one service (circa 3450) last year, and brake fluid being done tomorrow.
No faults or issues.
my own personal bug bear is the wheels - same 20" as on yours.
They are kerb magnets.
I don't drive the car that often (maybe once every two weeks) so my spatial awareness may not be dialled in so much !
Mostly driven by the wife.
multi story carparks around us have 6" high concrete 'guide' rails - the car only just fits !

Certainly sporty enough - I prefer it in sport all the time - slightly heavier steering feel, stiffer suspension (works better over the loads of speed bumps we have around us).
The car has lots of options, most of which I can't even remember !
HK stereo is pretty good.
Voice activation works 99% of the time - saves taking your hands off the wheel & looking down to change something
Cameras are a godsend when parking - again as I don't drive it much every little helps (If I'm not driving the 320d touring for work, I'm in a GT3)

We're probably due to swap it end of the year - shame the new X5 is totally gopping, with that stupid grille. Not sure what to go for - don't like Audi's offering, don't do RR's, Cayenne is getting to the end of its lifecycle from memory...might see if we can get into a 5 series touring x_drive

Nope, current Cayenne is only 2 years old, so its not even got to mid-life update yet.

No diesels though anymore.

Agree on pretty much all of the above.

We've had our family 40e for 3.5 years now. The rims are kerb magnets - living in London means ours look a total disgrace.

The HK stereo is excellent and the cameras are super useful.

I'd like the new X5 but will wait and see if they do a full electric version soon as I understand BMW are going down that route with the X5 as opposed to a hybrid.

Hybrid version of the new X5 is already on sale in many markets, and has been for a while......just not being sold in UK.
