Hi there everyone,

I am about to inherit both of my deceased father in law's BMW's and wanted to get your opinion as to what to expect. He had a 325Ci Sport Coupe '03 and a 325i Sport 4 door '03 also - he loved his E46's as do I. They both have 110k miles on - the 4 door has a valid MOT but the Coupe doesn't (it failed 2 years ago but can't see for what reason). They are both Auto's. In his latter years he sadly didn't drive much - maybe a couple of hundred miles a year in the 4 door.

They both have partial history (we can't find the service books but there are some invoices) they have both failed MOT's previously for degraded from arm suspension bushes and brake hoses. Plus the 4 door has an advisory about engine oil leaks. They look perfect bodywork wise.

The question to you all (and I know it's how long is a piece of string potentially) is am I likely to be investing an enormous amount of money to keep / get them running? We live down in Sussex and Munich Legends is up the road, is it worth getting them to look at them both? Any advice welcome on what to look out for or in fact what to do?!

Thanks

BFleming

I don't mean this to sound blunt, but they're pretty much run of the mill E46's that have done their work & decayed like most other E46's of the period. You could (over)pay Munich Legends - or any other specialists - to look at them & give you a quote for work - and it would be a long and ridiculously expensive list. If they are of sentimental value, pick the better one & keep it on the road, but restoring them both to glory via a specialist - well, it takes commitment.

Speak to Andy at Walkers autotech. He will be MUCH cheaper than Munich, pretty close and very honest and specialises in BMW

Thanks BFleming and Caddyshack. Both very helpful indeed. I'll give Andy a call then. I was planning to keep the best one and and get it in good shape. I'm hoping to keep the best one going for years to come for the sentimentality element. And also because they are lovely to look and drive!!
