Anyone know what this part is?

Hi,
I purchased a 2012 E93 M3 convertible and this was in the ashtray.
I don’t know if it’s something to do with the car, any ideas what it is?

Looks like an adjustable stop for something like the bonnet or the boot? Not sure I recognise it as a BMW part though.

Looks a bit like a PCV valve to me.. could be wrong though.

Thank the lord for saddo's....

It's been bugging me for a year but I never thought to look on the bootlid itself as that means looking up.

There were two already installed so I have a spare if anyone ever wants one.

I imagine one had broken, and they come in pairs, hence the spare.
