G2L tell me that mine has been delayed until ‘approximately May’, along with about 9 others. Sounds rather vague to me, and does make me wonder if it will happen even though they say that it will. Communication with them hasn’t been great - I had to press them for this info since they hadn’t updated me.

Not delighted, as I ordered around the same time as the majority, but I intend to stick with the deal as it’s still good value, even with the VED hike. They say that they haven’t yet decided how to handle the VED, but I would be very surprised if it’s anything other than me paying it!

Oh dear, what date was you originally given as an estimate?

I was offered 2nd March for mine but unfortunately I’ll be abroad for work so will have to wait until Friday 6th. S4 goes back on the previous Friday 27th.

BMW Insurance coming up the cheapest (and lowest excess) for me so just need to organise that, Gap Insurance and VE103B and I’ll be sorted. smile

I was given March/April, so I was aware of the possibility of the hike in VED, but given how early other cars ordered at the same time seem to be arriving, it’s disappointing. I was quoted on the basis of a pre VED hike registration. If there are 10 of us, out of around 40 G2L customers who have been put back to ‘approximately May’ I’m surprised that no one else here has mentioned it. I only discovered it by chasing them.

You need to factor in the monthly charges as well, the £2/300 is for purchasing the tracker and installation only. When looking into it a few weeks ago the monthly charge’s were around £10/15.
A long shot maybe but I have a £40 Tkstar tracker which costs £10 every 4 months using a 1p mobile sim (can also use giffgaff etc) and surprisingly this was acceptable to both Admiral and Adrian Flux when ringing round for insurance quotes recently. Its definitely not Thatcham approved and is removable (uses magnets) but they both said fine as long as its hidden out of site. Didn't need it in the end as went with Axa but for £40 plus £30 a year sim it's a pretty good device to have anyway.

Mine's supposedly due right at the beginning of April with a possibility of March; won't be a disaster if it slips as I've already said to both G2L and the dealer that I'll either cough for early termination on the current car or the VED hike but not both. If it comes April/May then they've agreed to hang on to it until the end of June.

Much as I'd like it sooner I'm not going to throw money away!

Thanks for that info. I am only adding a tracker to save on insurance really. Car will be in a locked compound overnight. So this will be perfect if it is acceptable by the insurance companies.

Nice.

So will you be installing the tracker on day of collection/delivery?
Well as soon as possible after the car arrives yes

You'd prob need to check with your own insurance company though as some of the online ones require you to select the specific tracker from a drop down menu and with it not being thatcham, it's unlikely to be listed

Having a bit of trouble with BMW Insurance. argue

I have just refreshed quotes from moneysupermarket, confused and gocompare, who have all got more expensive. I have then tried to refresh my quote from BMW Insurance and their crappy website has crashed.

I’ve gone through it with them on the phone (which was painful) and they are saying they will not insure it if I am not the registered keeper. And this is despite them having a question on their web version which asks who the registered keeper will be and offers Lease Company as an option. And they were happy to quote me previously on this basis.

Has anyone else who had quotes from BMW insurance had them refreshed? Anyone else come up against this problem?

I've not leased before, is it normal for the leasing company to be shown as the registered keeper (as a distinction from legal owner). Do you not normally recover the V5?

The finance company is registered keeper and owner. You don't get the V5. You are merely leasing (renting) the vehicle.

Ah right, thanks I didn't know that. One less thing to mislay!

Mine went up by about £200 for seemingly no reason. So insured through my own insurance.

Oddly, Churchill had an offer of approx. 25% off insurance until 31st January, could have been the effect of that not being on offer anymore?

When I was looking into getting a tracker fitted (not required now), I’m pretty sure that you have a 14 day window to get it fitted from what I can remember. Best to check with the insurance company you’ll be using.

I’ve just read the following on a tracker installer’s website:

‘’You will have to provide your insurer with a certificate of installation and will usually be allowed some time to have the tracking system fitted to your vehicle (often 7 or 14 days after inception of the policy).’’

Fair enough. Obviously fitting a tracker is a good idea regardless.

I still don’t believe getting a tracker fitted is the answer to expensive premiums. The up front cost and continual monitoring fees will surely outweigh any saving on premiums.
