Looks like the number of these 8series being churned out of Manchester has affected the quality of service.

Tbh, I have not 1 thing to moan about with my car from Stoke as everything works well except the right pedal....it seems to end up on floor of the car a lot and cause my face to fill with such joy. Think I might report that. Lol
Same here, 500 miles in and not a single issue, awesome to drive and certainly getting plenty of looks wink

Sorry to hear about all of the issues. The comon link seems to be cars that have been PDI'd and then sat for several months due to lockdown.
I'm happy to report that I have no issues after 1600 miles.

Car went in to Williams Liverpool for the battery issue and came back not fixed. It was with them all day and they spent most of that time trying to do the seatbelt recall fix - even though it has already been done!!!

They didnt realise it was done until after a few hours and then didnt have time to look at the battery. Absolute shambles. Software updates were not completed either.

Service Manager was due to call me before midday today to get it back in ASAP but never called.

I have found some contacts from LinkedIn at Williams and emailed them a complaint along with looping Phil Clench in who was the guy at Williams who sorted the deal with G2L.

Interesting experience of BMW so far.
Can you share contacts? I will escalate further too.
Assuming you want to go back to Manchester BMW where the car came from but a couple of people within the group who you may want to loop in are based in Bolton;

toni.williams@williamsmanchester.co.uk Customer Experience Manager
phil.clench@williamsmanchester.co.uk Business Development Manager
emma.friend@williamsmanchester.co.uk Business Development Manager
steve.dixon@williamsbolton.co.uk Franchise Director
nick.cook@williamsmanchester.co.uk Managing Director
william.adams@williamsbolton.co.uk Managing Director
alexandra.cook@williamsbolton.co.uk Group Head of Development

This was an email I sent yesterday - quickly threw it together in between work stuff so not the best written piece but now had a response from the service manager and the head technician is looking at car on Wed 15th. Fingers crossed it gets sorted.

RE: Replace Battery Warning

Dear Service Manager,

I took delivery of my new 840i GC on 1st July from Williams BMW Liverpool and it unfortunately had to be returned to the Williams Liverpool service centre yesterday (8th July) due to a warning light on the dash – ‘Replace Battery’. The outcome of the visit was no progress made at all.

Most of the time yesterday was taken (wasted) looking to replace a seat belt part in relation to a factory recall, however this fix had already been completed before the car was released to me. I would have expected your team to be fully aware that my vehicle had already had the fix applied and wonder if someone hasn’t noted the system properly or there is a breakdown in communication somewhere.

The ‘Replace Battery’ issue has not been addressed at all and I was told the car needs to be re-booked in. I also understand a software update is due on these cars but I don’t believe that was completed either. Frustrating and a waste of my time coming to and from the branch.

Before I get into the detail and to give some wider context, my car was purchased via Gateway 2 Lease and Leasys and was a batch of 40 BMW 840i GC all purchased on a particular deal through Williams BMW and managed by Phil Clench, the Business Development Manager at Williams Manchester (his contact details are 07917070069 and phil.clench@williamsmanchester.co.uk).

Almost all of us in this 40 are in regular discussions about our cars on a Pistonheads forum (https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=72&t=1848651&i=3140) and this is how we all know (and Phil Clench knows) of just how many issues there have been with these cars from Williams BMW which indicates that the proper PDI checks have not been completed;

- Loose, ill-fitting or broken B pillar trim - At least 4 people’s car impacted
- All 4 tyres not being the same brand – mixture of Pirelli and Michelin on one car - at least one person’s car impacted
- 12v sockets not working – At least one person’s car impacted
- Connected and Spotify app issues – At least four people impacted
- Battery replacement issues – At least four people impacted
- Rear wheel skipping – potential differential issue – At least one person impacted
- Parking sensor issues (emergency braking being applied) – At least one person impacted

Phil is aware of these problems because he has faced the wrath from this small group of customers on some of these issues. In fact, he made light of it on my collection saying he had already checked my B pillar trim. This is quite a shocking list on what is supposed to be BMW’s flagship vehicle.

It is also context that not all 40 of us have received our cars yet so for such a small group of people to have all these issues from cars delivered through Williams BMW perhaps suggests that your PDI checks are not fit for purpose. The fact one of these cars was delivered to a customer with 3 Michelins and 1 Pirelli tyre beggars’ belief and I know from the forum that this gentleman is now engaged with a solicitor.

Fortunately, I have escaped all but one of these issues – the replacement battery warning. Three of the four people impacted have had battery replacements due to this issue and one person had the issue go away by simply disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and reconnecting it. Something that has not worked for me.

Lastly, I was told someone would be in contact this morning from Williams Liverpool to book the car back in along with a courtesy car but nobody has called.

Having been an Audi and VW man all my life (I am now 41) this is a really bad start to my experience with BMW. Surely you are wanting me to become a brand advocate instead of being very frustrated less than two weeks in to ownership.

Outside of the issues I am blown away by the car to the point where we are already looking at an X5 to replace my wife’s A6, with several quotes already. However, until this battery issue is fixed, we do not intend to move forward.

It was just really frustrating to hear that yesterday most of the time was wasted trying to fix the seatbelt issue that had already been addressed and that this battery issue is not uncommon yet you didn’t seem to know anything about it.

I expect someone to contact me today to book the car back in and hopefully get this warning light issue fixed along with the software update complete.
I have attached and included pages from the forum so you can clearly see this battery issue is not isolated, that at least four people have had this exact issue, all with 840i GC delivered and apparently PDI’d by Williams BMW, proving the issue is not an isolated one and relates to this batch of cars all through Williams BMW.

I hope we can get this resolved asap and I can go back to enjoying the vehicle.

Kind regards,

Absolutely no problems here (so far). Love it.

Seems like a bit of a lottery....... still a ‘gift‘ at this price though.

honestly had 2 so far which dont really bear mentioning but as we are here.....

- Car was delivered with rear tyre pressures low. quick trip to the shell close to me solved that.
- 2 days ago i started the car and harman Kardon didn't work properly. sounded as though i was only listening to the tweeters. parked at the shops, came back and all was fine.

Absolutely. Even with the battery niggle its an absolute monster of a car for the money. I keep tabs on the leasing thread on here on a daily basis and there is nothing remotely on par for the money. This really is that once in a blue moon deal.

Battery , software , wrong tyres , scratched alloy , missing checklist..... I still like it though , despite all shambles.

I seem to have been credited the £350 VED contribution from G2L before the initial payment has been taken.
Top service by G2L again!

It’s here! Very pleased - the fact it turned up in bright sunshine made the first impression even better. Dravit grey looks amazing.

Unfortunately BCA could not make it today due to lack of staff so the S5 is going back next week instead.

That looks fab! Nice to see more Dravits appearing too.

Mine's due Friday next week...

Very refined. My percieved speed is about 10mph faster than in the S5 so that'll take a bit of getting used to. Fake engine noise a bit meh but it's the way the world is going.

Impressed with the infotainment, HUD works OK with polarised sunglasses too which I was a bit concerned about. Very little to complain about really - maybe that the gear selector is a bit plasticy compared to what Audi give you?

lovely pics!

What is the general consensus on comfort access and security on these? I made my mind up to disable comfort access once I take delivery of mine, but at the same time seems like a shame as it can be so convenient.

Has anyone installed a two channel dashcam, that can maybe share some advice on how easy it is to hide/feed the wire to the rear?

3 weeks and counting smile

I’m intending to order my dash cam today but I might run my old one as a rear cam to prevent me from having to route the (seemingly quite fat) cable from front to back. There’s a fuse box in the boot that’s easy to access so I’d just need a piggyback fuse kit.
