Just sat in a coupe! What a utterly useless car. So long but no rear room. Would be lucky to get 10 year olds in the back of a coupe!

It’s basically the new 6 series IMHO

Well... yes. It’s exactly the new 6 series. They pretty much said that’s what it is when they launched it. biggrin

Did they actually say that? Strange marketing if they did!

So from looking at this forum for nearly two weeks and being in the position where I am still awaiting confirmation of the order, this is how I see it. Please correct me if I am wrong.

SELECT:
No one has had any confirmation of order or credit check and Select are still awaiting the deal to be loaded to their quoting system. Also mention that the contract between leasys and BMW needs to be completed.

G2L:
This appears to be hit and miss. Some stating that everything has gone through and they have received an estimated delivery date, others stating they have signed a contract and had credit check but its gone quiet.

All contracts are going through leasys it appears, although unsure if they are all using the same BMW dealer for delivery of the cars.

I've owned a few 6 series and was surprised that the rear leg room was the same. Would have thought the 8 was a larger car. Does look longer..

Thinking about it, BMW may not have done. Everyone else did in the reviews though. biggrin

6 series - “upmarket” coupe, convertible and gran coupe. BMW stop making it, and start making the 8 series, an upmarket coupe, convertible and gran coupe...

8 series is a little more expensive than the 6 was as it looks like they’re now aiming it at the S class coupe, but it was always more expensive than the Audi A5 and E class equivalents.

I completed mine on the 9th and i'm still being told they can't process the credit application. There doesn't seem to be any logic to the order in which they are processing the orders. I'm seriously starting to consider other options.
I'm in a similar position - having completed the application on the 9/10th, all I get is stalling from G2L, telling me to be patient and that it needs to be loaded onto their system. Meanwhile others apply later and their orders go through, suggesting that G2L are misleading us about the reason for the delay.

It would be nice to have some clarity from G2L as this doesn't leave a good impression.

This could be becasue they had 39 build slots and they are back filling quotes that match profiles that they had quoted for prior to the cut off where the original customer had decided not to proceed.

I believe dealer is Williams (Liverpool/Manchester area). No paperwork from BMW/dealer but that’s fairly normal.
I’m sure mine said that originally, but the paperwork now seems to suggest it’s coming from Gatwick BMW.

As to the differences between progress, some of us got in very very early - basically before lunch on day one (ie Tuesday 7th), and they seem to be in luck. Not sure if anybody that applied after that date has actually got a confirmed slot and paid money?

On page 35, Don Phil said this

"Received my quote on 16th, accepted it and completed credit application in the evening, it was accepted on 17th and have confirmation G2L will be ordering the car from a named dealer." His first contact was via email on the 12th

I thought 6 series was aimed at A7 and CLS and in same price range

I presumed all the people that have applied recently and everything has gone through has been at a slightly higher rate? I applied within the first 24/48hrs and apparently still waiting for finance but have not been told of any extra charges sobdar

Then I really don’t understand - that really equates to first contact on 13th as 12th was a Sunday and, as I understood it, the systems have not had the right info loaded onto them for the entirety of the past week?

ETA - there have been some cars with other brokers about at much higher prices (ContractCars were doing them at £424 a month) - perhaps this is one of those?

That's a good point - is everyone who's had confirmation of their order buying a stock car at the same price? My quote came back at £3192 and £354/mo which was a touch over what Simon quoted in the first post but it was close enough for me not to quibble...

The GC was, but that came along later.

Just popped in to dealer to drive a gran coupe. 640i is surprisingly quick and sounds good in sports mode. Impressive car. They knew about these deals along with the stratstone deal and are willing to "do a deal" to beat any quote. Seems like it may be worthwhile having a word with your dealer as BMW are heavily subsidising the 8!

I remember a similar situation on the X5 last November and the dealer was giving a better deal by throwing in extra packs! Ive asked for a car with the M Sport and tech pack thrown in and they are currently "thinking about it" will let you know if they agree!

Remember these deals are subsidised by BMW so the dealer still has margin to do better!

When I initially decided to get the 8 series GC it was from leasing options for £469 a month! I thought that was a deal. I contacted Sytner in Chigwell Essex. After looking into it, he called me back and stated there is no way he can match that so I very much doubt they’d be able to match the current deal. Worth a try tho

Yep worth a try. In November I was offered an X5 30d with M Sport Plus Pack and Tech Pack for £599 down and £599 a month. I managed to get a deal on the same money but with the 22” wheels thrown in, crafted clarity, sun protection glass and a pan roof thrown in!

Lads,
Put refundable deposit down on the Stratstone deal.
Looking through my contract, i noticed something strange, other items RFL - Petrol - 12 months (inc. 1st reg fee)

So i asked Stratstone to make sure i was paying no tax at all, and they were covering the whole term and not just the first year.

They have emailed back stating only the first year is included and where is my information about the rate increasing.

I have worked it out at having to pay £465 in tax in the second year, if the above is correct.
I have sent them the Gov UK tax rate page and the change from 164 to 191 g/km under the new cycle.

If they come back again saying yes you owe £465 for the second year, going to a local dealer to match the deal, plus get them to pay for the tax. I will keep you all posted.

Hopefully G2L and Select can come back with the Grand Coupe deals next week, but i think they are both dead deals now.
