What have you done to your BMW today?

Cracked on with the suspension work on my car which was bloody hard work in the heat today. Really hard work.
Had a few battles too….the lower bolt for the rear drop links is 13mm impossible to get to and very very seized, so they were binned off for now.
I was absolutely hanging after too.
Enjoying a well earned beer tonight for sure. I’ll deal with the front tomorrow.

Fought with my front suspension yesterday….mainly the passenger side track rod end. The nut was solid and the T40 counter hold rounded joy.
The oil filled bushes in the drivers side were leaking and the drop links were super floppy so it needed doing and the front is sitting better.
I took care of the seized nut this morning with an angle grinder and managed to get the track rod end off.
My other half is gabbing two new assemblies for me this morning although I’m hoping to get away with just a new track rod end because I don’t have a spanner big enough to remove the inner arm. I’ll leave the drivers side to the alignment place if it won’t budge. At least I’ll have the parts in boot.

Decided on taking the M635CSi out for the day...
...starting with a couple of hours at the Black Swan meet in Ockham and then pick up the wife and off to the sports centre to play squash - it got a fair amount of attention in both venues as when did you last see an E24 out in the wild.
AC still ice cold, everything still working perfectly and engine making a glorious noise on the way through 5000rpm

Fitted myself some new work benches in the garage and some Vonhaus tool storage magnetic strips and their wall storage system - very impressed TBH
Also; as per Sam's recommendation, I've bought the springs compressors off Amazon for £40 and they've made mincemeat of a full set of OEM E39 M5 suspension I've bought to strip for the rubber parts
All the top mounts and other parts are in solid condition, so going to reuse them to rebuild the new suspension for my E39

CTEK do an eyelet kit for the terminals with the quick-clip connection FYI That's what I use if needed, makes life much easier

That is what I've fitted, +ive connecting into the main terminal block and -ive the the screw just above my finger, used these as trying to connect directly to the battery terminals meant you wouldn't be able to access the port once the battery cubby was refitted, and the fact the cable length is a bit short for the large battery.Wonder if they've changed the lengths of the kit now; mines years old?!

Zero issues with mine, it's long enough to connect to both terminals on an 019 size battery and the connection just pokes out of the cover, if I need it to, otherwise its tucked away...

Only supplying 13" cable lengths nowadays

That’s stunning; a nice way to spend a few hours. ...starting with a couple of hours at the Black Swan meet in Ockham and then pick up the wife and off to the sports centre to play squash - it got a fair amount of attention in both venues as when did you last see an E24 out in the wild.

Yikes, the extra holes cut in the bumper are horrendous. I’ve said a few times on the baldy modified cars thread that this era BMW are going through a really bad patch, falling into the hands of some absolute cretins.
Old passenger tie rod successfully removed this morning courtesy of an angle grinder!
With a bit of persuasion it came of the inner rod without too much drama. The threads cleaned up nicely and a new Lemforder end spun on nicely.
Had another crack at the rear drop links; passenger one came off with some patience, the drivers side is still putting up a fight and being only a 13mm bolt I decided to leave as is for now.

Tightened a slipping A/C belt on the E34 M5 Touring, seems to be holding and has stopped the squeak. Gave it a wash at 6:30am before it got too hot outside.
Checked the E26 M1 for leaks after noticing some drips last week after moving it a short distance, nothing now. Strange will keep an eye on it. Hazard warning light decided to pop up on it's own and would not go off. Took said switch apart, the ratchet mechanism is well past it's best but managed to temporarily resurrect it, but it needs replacing.
Wondering what might go wrong, took the E39 M5 out for a short blast to keep things moving. Everything worked as it should, hydraulic tappets quietened down after a few minutes, such a joy to drive, what a car.

I reckon that has put me off a quad exhaust set up now!
I've seen a few badly modified E92 M3s recently too, and I wish people would do tasteful mods rather than Barry them.

My OCD is all over the place with how badly that rear bumper has been cut and all the exhausts at slightly different heights!

Better put mine back to standard!! I reckon that has put me off a quad exhaust set up now!

On a more serious note, there are some absolute shockers out there. The E36, E46 all suffered too. Once the turds are dead, they’ll come good again.
