Even a simple job of having your windscreen changed can become a nightmare annoyingly(I know from experience). frown
Part of me wants a new screen because mine is old, has minor chips and marks after 91k.

I can almost guarantee that when it does crack, they’ll send a screen without the sun band, had that with my 130i; when I arranged the replacement I was explicit in asking for a screen with the band to replace like for like, the lady in the phone was dismissive and bordering on rude. Guess what? They sent a team out with the wrong screen who I then sent away until the correct screen was available.

Changing a screen is a skill. Glassman who posts on here seems to take a lot of care over his work.

F31 up on axle stands; all 4 winter wheels off, wheel arches snow foamed, scrubbed, rinsed and dried off/plastics treated

Summer Style 405Ms back on

Cars absolutely filthy; but temps have gone from -3ºC overnight and 1.5ºC during the day at the beginning of the week to 12.5ºC today!

It's the right time to move back to the summer wheels thumbup

Those wheels look grand Dan.

This weather is mental; March has been ste so far. I’m usually getting stuck into the post winter detail by now but I’m holding off for now.

Aye it's been colder here than it was in the Highlands pal; which is very weird!

We've had numerous days of heavy snowfall; last Thursday & Friday it was nigh on blizzards and then Monday/Tuesday this week it was a white out...

Mad! laugh

And yup; I do like those 405Ms; they've really grown on me and glad I stuck with 18s and 235/45 tyres all round; they make the ride so smooth and comfortable but the handling is much better; it takes bends far better than the 18" RFT winters

There's be no full detailing of the car for a good few weeks I don't reckon; but when I can it'll be washed/de-tarred/clayed/washed/dried and then polished hopefully

You might be a bit out of his area but this guy did the screen on my Golf and did a good job and was pretty knowledgable. Wasn’t a genuine screen but he advised against it as he said the significant extra cost wasn’t worth it (but would fit one if wanted)

Think I paid 220ish about 3 years ago which I was happy with to avoid using autoglass via insurance

Not far from me I don’t think; Derby is 16 miles or so away. I’ll give them a shout to get an idea of price.

I did an oil and filters service on my wife's B47 520d Touring today.
After years of always draining from the sump on every car I have owned and snubbed garages who pump it it, I decided to try sucking it out of the dipstick as putting it on axle stands and crawling around is getting less appealing as I get older.

Last 2 services I got 4.90 litres out from the sump, so thought it would be interesting to compare how much was left over sucking it out.

Well, to say I was shocked when a smidge over 5 litres came straight out was an understatement.

Took 20 minutes from start to finish, changed the air filter as it was pumping out.

Bought the pump for £21 on Amazon, power is from the battery, so just clipped it onto the jump points in the engine bay.

Yup; been doing our oil changes for years this way now...

When I first got my previous E39 540i; whilst I had it on my pals ramps I dropped the oil and around 7l; capacity is just under 7.5l IIRC - the oil wasn't as hot as it should have been really...

I did the same again a few months later but used my Pela pump down the dipstick and drew out 7.1 litres!

It's never a massive amount difference and like you said; saves you crawling around under cars (I can't do that anyway as I'm simply too big)!

Fortunately my current F31 has a dipstick tube wink

Thanks both, I may try that on my F30. (Yes, the secret F30/31 hidden dipstick, don’t know if it’s all engines, certainly the 335d).
Do you change the oil filter as well?

Might be worth throwing some engine flush in next time, I've been using a pump for years on a variety of BMW engines and definitely got far more out after I'd used a can of engine flush

Every time, Mann/Hengst or Mahle, whichever is readily available etc...

I've always got one filter and the full amount of oil in; so it's a 30min job, just need to ensure the engine is nice and warm so the oil is easier to extract

Huzzah!

Eibach Pro-Kit 15mm lower springs (progressive)
Eibach 12mm spacer front
Eibach 15mm spacer rear
M3 front bump stops
M Performance F80 rear bump stops

Will hopefully completely transform the suspension on my F30 330e.. the Sachs dampers should still have a bit of life left in them yet, to be replaced by Bilsteins eventually.

Still on 18” 400M, spacers aren’t everyone’s thing but wanted a bit more aggressive fitment without sacrificing ride quality - I also like beefy tirewalls.

Was against most coilover systems due to the reviews of the stiffer ride quality on the Bilstein kits - the 330e is already so heavy that the ride isn’t too great. and the Birds stuff was a bit too expensive, although my dad used to have a lot of Kevin’s kit fitted regularly back in the early 90s

Replaced a coil pack, which will hopefully remove the intermittent misfire, and dropped one of the pollen filter screws somewhere in the space below the inlet manifold rolleyes

Cheers Glenn... biggrin

I was power washing the rear patio this morning and I was happy to get randomly drenched with the spray as it was very warm!

Although last night we had a huge hailstorm that lasted around 10mins and the hail was bloody huge!

New brake hoses on my E36 320i today. It’s 30 years old in a few weeks, and the hoses weren’t looking too great. Weirdly there’s six hoses on these. The rear have two each. Unless it’s a late car then it has a long hose. Anywho:

Up on stands at the rear and a quick look. I’m still very pleased with how rot-free this car is. Garaged and not been a daily driver all it’s life. This jacking point is the nearside rear. Usually they get grotty easily now due to salt and rubbish in the gutter.

Trailing arm pockets are good too, which cause issues on these cars (and E46s).

Rear short line done, usually these can be a real pig but everything came apart brilliantly.

… And the line to the caliper from a funny S-piece of hard line.

Bled up with a pressure bleeder Sam and B’stard Child recommended. I have an Eezibleed but messing around with a spare tyre can be a pain. Pumping this up is nice and easy, and means I can do this job without a helper.

Being in such a good mood as the job had gone so easily, I also remembered I have a steam cleaner. So I cleaned the rear Inner arches. The steam loosened the dirt nice and easily without putting any muddy water on the garage floor. I’m sure a few pounds of Berkshire has been liberated from the arches.

Before

After

Then I had lunch. And did the fronts. But I forgot to take any pictures.

Finally, the test drive. We’ve had some good rains this week, which have taken the salt off of the roads. They also dried up nicely in time for a drive. Didn’t roll into anything, so good news. smile

Ordered Eibach Pro lowering springs for the M2.

They sit a little high. Oddly, slightly higher at the front than at the rear, so its a 25mm drop front and a 20mm drop rear.

Jake that E36 looks remarkably good underneath. I’ve seen newer cars that look far, far worse.

That brake bleeder works a treat. I’ve used it twice now and not died! For £30 it’s an absolute bargain especially when you consider my local dealer wanted £112 to do it!
