Not really, obviously if you live somewhere where it is often -10c when you start your car, 5w40 maybe better, but 10w40 or even 10w50 is what most Germans use on the N52 and similar as they hit 200,000 KM.

Slight wear just likes a slightly heavier oil.

You may loose 1mpg using a thicker oil.

4 new Continental AllSeasonContacts fitted today to replace the unbranded Chinese tyres (3 RFT’s 1 non RFT vomit)

BMW tyres sadly seem to cost an eyewatering price . Oh well, can’t beat a quality tyre though

Shame Michelin CrossClimate2’s aren’t made in 255/40 R18, but the Contis are a 1000% improvement on the tyres I had now.

Goodbye bone breaking ride! With my Eibachs and new bump stops fitted, the ride is still so much better than stock.

Cheers; seen the ML site but haven't seen MSteyle state they sell OEM parts

Will have another look; it's not desperate as I've to book it in with my pals bodyshop yet!

Any reason why not going with aftermarket? AC Schnitzer, Vorsteiner, 3D Design, Rieger, Carbon Factory, Prior Design

All good as OEM if not better

Any idea how on earth to sort this alignment out

Got it aligned and it seems to be no better than it was before?

Very disappointed with the results of the alignment frown

Take it to someone who knows what they're doing; ideally a motorsports specialist that can dial it all in properly and maybe are more old skool and use a box rather than relying on lasers and computers!

Do you have any issues with the suspension; failing/failed bushes, seized bolts etc?

Because my cars under BMW warranty and I want to keep the car as OEM as I can

Plus I've seen a lot of the aftermarket ones fitted and they don't look to fit as well; a lot seem to have odd gaps etc

Booked it in with Blackboots tomorrow for a second opinion and to go underneath it to see what exactly is the problem.

Thinking it might be the whole control arm itself being bent (front left)

No idea about the bushes within. And my techie said there was no problems with seized bolts.

Had the Eibach Pro Kit fitted 10 days ago. Before the car was simply horrible to drive. Vague, wallowy, going all over the place. My mechanic said the shock absorbers were all good with life in them. New springs fixed the wallowyness and the new Continentals fixed tramlining issues and poor ride quality. So now the only problem is the car doesn’t track exactly straight and seems to still require too many steering inputs. Minor annoyance but I am very anal about these things

Considering my car was driven by a couple of young business types before, and a powerfully built company director (company car) before that, I think it’s unlikely its been bodged up so I don’t think it has anything to do with a subframe. Rather the suspension taking the brunt due to crappy RFT + large pothole/kerb.

I find it irritating that my old work Transit with 150,000 miles could happily be driven at 80 in a dead straight line with 1 finger, but my BMW cannot

Try BMW Park Lane, as the only BMW owned agent they might be able to help. When I went in they had basically anything you can dream of.

Or Sytner.

I currently have two BMWs. An X5M and an M140i. Depressingly, I keep checking the weather forecast in the hope I might actually be able to get them clean in the next couple of weeks; not looking good.

Anyway, other than that, I mainly put petrol in them

The OEM front lip is easy to source; just at c£500 its a bloody expensive piece of plastic.

Cotswolds BMW who generally offer a decent forum discount wanted more than Bowkers!

I'll leave it be for now

Yup; you'll have underlying issues there that need to be rectified before the tracking & alignment will be sorted properly

Not anal at all; these things need to be right as it's what makes/breaks the driving of the car etc!

I'll only ever take my cars to my pal who's a very respected motorsport specialist; he does the tracking/alignment and fast road set ups in a spring box; no lasers to drop/be out of kilter etc

I've spoken to quite a few today, no one discounts it at all for some reason

One of the dealers said it'll be down to how many get damaged when parking; so the prices are kept high as owners & bodyshops will just order one and pay for it etc rolleyes

It'd be cheaper to go down the CF route! biggrin

I tend to avoid generic alignment places because I’ve never been happy with the results. I’m happy to admit that I’m a bit of a princess about alignments though.

On a stock car BMW usually do a good job, although they bridged my M140i and the excuse was because it was lowered (they’d done a good job on my 330 previously though).

My go to place now is String Theory is Stratford; not cheap but they do a really good job, talk you through any issues etc. My old 130i drove fantastically after its trip there and they’ve since done a grand job on my 335i.
