That’s looking really good now. These are ageing really well, I still think the interior is a lovely place to sit.
Yes, had it out for a good run today down to see my folks and am well pleased with it. The lowering and the spacers give it a more purposeful stance and yes, the interior is a lovely place to sit. Was really nice getting a good run in it now its in to the shape i want it.

Tailgate area trim removed; all areas cleaned (absolutely disgusting); pleased to say the wire looms look in excellent health and theres no corrosion.

The plastic clips have all snapped before my time with the car; so 3M trim tape used to hold the sections down tightly; but only used enough to do just that and not permanently glue it down (just in case it ever needs to be removed again).

Rear wiper mech all cleaned and greased; rear tailgate latches cleaned & greased too

It was coming up with this fault on the iDrive:

And this on the dash:

I've found the C310 a really helpful bit of kit for all my BMWs (E46: identifying crank sensor issues and MAF problems, E91: Vanos Solenoid, E63: Misfire/coil pack, E70: EVAP valve). Definitely worth having on your shelf imo (if you're not going to go down the INPA or Carly route)
woohoo

Your recommended code reader put the airbag light out no problem! Well impressed! The amazon driver wouldn't have been at the bottom of the road until I had it plugged in and reset. Looks like a great wee product too. Will have a play around with it tomorrow.

Thank you beer

I bought my F10 530d back in May. Since then I've got through a fair bit of money on it because:

1. It was clear after i bought it the front brakes were shot. I also knew at the time of purchase that it needed a service. Then about two days after I bought it a reversing bulb blew. Taking it to Steve Rowley (local recommended independent) all of that was sorted, plus a broken rear spring and one or two other very minor things for just over a grand.

2. I got the wheel alignment and balance sorted a month or so later as it was following cambers more than i would have expected and i wasn't sure if it was correct or not.

3. Had the bad luck of a stone or bolt or something like that coming up off the motorway from a vehicle in front and whacking the bonnet, denting it and gouging through the paint, down to the metal. I took it to a local bodyshop to get that sorted and at the same time get a small dent taken out of the boot and the boot resprayed as there were some scratches and what looked like bird st stains that had permanently marked the paint.

All the above was probably two grand on top of the purchase price, but the car is pretty much as I want it to be as a result. One thing remains...

I'd like to change the iDrive headunit for something more up to date with Android Auto built in. I've seen various options online but I'd be hopeless at trying to install it. I've contacted the local business recommended by Steve Rowley and things got off to a good start with them coming back asking for pictures of the existing head unit, VIN numbers etc. Then when they had all of that; nothing. Call it an overreaction on my part, but something that really gets on my nerves is businesses that can't even be bothered to quote. I had the same thing with getting the bodywork sorted, where I drove it to a local shop, lots of 'yes sir, no worries at all, we'll sort that for you' and never provided a quote. Normally I'd just head off immediately to the next place (as I did with the bodywork), but in this instance people who install headunits seem thin on the ground. Looking through the PH wiki, most of the places just do servicing and repairs. Does anyone have any recommendations for where to go for work like this?

I live in Cheltenham but recommendations countrywide would be appreciated and I may be passing by due to work / family etc. For a moment BMW Retrofits in Gerrard's Cross looked like a good shout but their website says they're not currently taking orders.

If it comes down to it I can remind the place I've already contacted and still go there. I just begrudge doing so, probably because winning work is a big part of my job and takes a lot of time and effort. The thought of someone coming to me asking for my company to work on something and me not managing to get a quote to them out the door...

If you want OE kit, Simon at Bavarian Coding is good. He’s worked on my car and I wouldn’t hesitate to use him again. Reasonably priced, too.

Ordered some mats for the X5 (at the moment it has the rubber overmats). Went for black to contrast with the cream interior.

Need to think about booking the E91 in for a wheel bearing replacement. Notable on straight ahead and turning left, quiet on turning right. Has been getting worse for weeks now.

Made it back from Devon.

Best part of 600 miles covered in a week without issue; it’s averaged just under 29mpg over a mixture of motorway (usually not going very fast due to traffic) and pootling about. It was actually a pretty good size for Devon’s rather narrow lanes. The CarPlay solution was ace with Waze doing a good job of taking us down the tightest lanes possible! hehe

I need to give it a bloody good clean tomorrow and remove the bloody sand that’s everywhere.

Yesterday finally read up on the 'Rear Entertainment System' of the X5 so my son can watch a DVD while we drive. With the Pro HiFi option, Hey Duggee sounds fantastic!! biggrin

Annoyances however include: not being able to control the rear system from the iDrive upfront, unfortunately not having the TV option in the rear (only CD/DVD and Aux In) and missing the remote which means I can't access some of the options. The remote is a frustration in itself as it's not clear which one I need (in terms of MHz), examples on eBay are ££ (US ones are cheap but not correct) and from my reading they still need to be coded by the dealer to work!

I think it’s a lovely part of the country even if the journey there and back was bloody awful.

Is there any other choice for a kids seat? :haha:

For what age(s) is that Recaro seat? Isofix base?

It’s not isofix, but will last up until the little dude is 12 (if need be). I think he was about 10 months old when we got it. It’s pretty adjustable and seemed to get good reviews.

I de-Devoned my car today.

It was pretty minging after 600 miles and had half a beach inside it.

Gave it a wash and ended up polishing the sides after the overgrown Devon lanes has taken their toll.

Got pissed off with her 125i.

Just before we went away the DSC shat itself. Plugged Carly in and the error was pointing to the passenger rear ABS sensor. Great, piece of cake to sort. Thought nothing of it and ordered a new sensor which arrived whilst we were away.

Popped it in today and one code has gone, but 005DB6 remains (yaw rate sensor).

I’m not sure if it’s because it’s a cheap sensor (usual suspects were either out of stock or only had ones that were a million pounds). Trying to decide if I try a better quality sensor from someone like Bosch or bite the bullet and get it into a garage. I’ve had a look at the reluctor ring and it doesn’t look bad although the end of the old one was pretty chewed up.
