Simon/Szymon is a legend to be fair. He did a combox retrofit, BMW apps coding and lifetime FSC code on my E91 years ago. Put a proper shift in getting everything perfect and did a great job. I d use him again for any retrofits on future cars I have.
The cars done, he's a master of his trade for sure! He arrived at 7pm and by half past it was pretty much done, can't fault him, very impressive.

I don't remember having bluetooth for the phone before but I have that now and the latest maps too. Took it for a spin, all good.

Na, just steamed up from the guy sitting in the car changing the clocks. It'll be tucked up in a barn long before the ice arrives biglaugh

Added another 400ml of coolant, so doesn't look like it was the cap that was the issue. It didn't lose any during 10 days sitting at the airport as it was fine on the way home yesterday, but the coolant warning light came on this morning. I can see some residue around the header tank, so I'm think it either has a small leak or the plastic valve is leaking.

Feel like it's punishing me for looking at a new one and running round in a Nissan Note for a few days hehe
Which car (my memories useless) and do you know what the usual suspects are?
It's a 125i with the N52. It's had the pump, 'stat and radiator done relatively recently (less the 3 years for the pump and stat, less than 2 for the radiator) along with a couple of pipes, and I've already done the radiator cap as mentioned.

From looking around, it's likely to be the coolant expansion tank as Mr Tidy mentioned, or just another coolant pipe somewhere that's got old and brittle in the 17 years it's been running.

I'll have a word with me mate next week and get him to have a look.

Took it for a run last night getting it up to temperature, temps were solid and checking this morning it's still full of coolant. I also added half a litre of oil, because old N52 hehe
Just to close the loop on this, I've heard back from me mate looking into it - he put it on a pressure tester and the culprit was immediately obvious, one of the coolant pipes got brittle and was leaking.

Should be back with me later on today assuming the part arrives from BMW.

How accurate is the Oil measurement on the iDrive? 2015 428i with the N20 2.0 Turbo. I've always trusted it, but a poster elsewhere said his was always in the green, and he used the measurement every couple of months and it was always in the green but when he got his oil changed the mechanic told him his oil was really low, possibly dangerously so judging by the amount that came out.

Second coat of Fusso applied to the 330i.

And I swapped the poplar wood trim for anthracite bamboo, which I think works better with the lemon leather.

Both the BMWs I’ve owned have needed top ups between services and the oil level reading always increases according to how much I have added. 250ml top up=1 bar increase, 500ml top up =2 bar increase etc. Due to this, I have never doubted the accuracy of the oil level sensor.

I don’t do my own oil change though, so maybe someone that does and has measured what they’ve drained can chime in.

I don't think it would be that accurate measuring the level of oil by checking how much comes out, even with dipsticks I've dropped the oil and found it to be less than what should be in there. Also, how did they check the level going back in if the sensor was faulty? Or did they just put in the amount it should have had in it, potentially overfilling it?

It's not unknown for them to fail but from what I've read often they just show no level if they do give up the ghost. For what they cost I'm gonna swap mine out next oil change.

Mine never needed top ups between services. I occasionally check my 335d using the manual dipstick (they never tell you about that feature!), and it suggests the iDrive can be relied upon.

Thanks, mine never seems to use a drop. Sounds like it can be relied upon.

Cheers Sam

Took it out for a spin this morning and it deffo drives better. Needs a full alignment tweak etc. It’ll be spot on once I’ve fitted the E39 M5 rear ARB; that makes it really well planted then

Done & done

The rear will settle a bit more but not much. It’s low enough TBH more so for our local roads…

It’s in on Tuesday for a full alignment; I’ll do the diff fluid and oil sump/gasket and oil/filter whilst it’s up on the ramps.

E39 M5 rear ARB on order from BMW Germany; Powerflex 16.5mm rear bushes and 25mm front bushes ordered

That’s it for the mechanicals smile
