What have you done to your BMW today?
Discussion
Managed to get away from work a bit early today and it was dry so I tried the 513m wheels on. First thing I noticed is how light they are, noticeably lighter than the stock M3 wheels (which aren't that heavy themselves tbh).

This was with 15mm front spacers on the front and 20mm on the rear, front was quite aggressive, probably about right once it's been dropped a bit, the rears I think need another 5mm on them to fill the arches. I'm liking the look of them though, just need a fresh refurb, leaning towards silver. Surprising how different wheels look with chunky boi tyres! Tucked them in the garage for winter now (keep the Porsche company) and worry about that in spring!

The 513M wheels, like the 405Ms are forged; stunning wheels too. Rare as hens teeth over here and bloody expensive new... I reckon they'd look superb in a bright silver or a ferric grey; they'd really suit your car colour-wiseThis was with 15mm front spacers on the front and 20mm on the rear, front was quite aggressive, probably about right once it's been dropped a bit, the rears I think need another 5mm on them to fill the arches. For me, I wouldn't want to run any bigger than 15-20mm spacers; ideally 15mm max, with a stud conversion...
Wonder if 12s would work best for you up front?

Nope, these were the metal type that failed about 187k miles. My E34 B10 4.6 had the organic/cardboard gaskets and as there are literally no engine spares anywhere I was advised to do those gaskets pre-emptively as the engine was on 170k-ish miles. While the later B10 V8 cars use the E53 X5 4.6iS head gaskets for any replacement the B10 4.6 uses E39 M5 S62 head gaskets.
Hmm, mine is @ 151k and tbh the head gasket isn't a well known failure on the M62 so that sounds like bad luck. Have you had your chain guides done?Pizzaeatingking said:

I've got 12s so they'll get a go, tbh I'm gonna wait till it's lowered and the wheels have been powder coated I think before I get too picky on fitment. For me, I wouldn't want to run any bigger than 15-20mm spacers; ideally 15mm max, with a stud conversion...

I'm doing the same with my E39. Until I've sorted the coilovers and got them fitted and dialled in etc, I'm not looking at wheels.
Once done and closer to warmer weather in Spring, then I'll sort them with new tyres

Finally got around to swapping onto my winter wheels as I finally got a nice dry day!
No point adding a photo seeing as both sets of wheels are the same.
I've sometimes left it until December to swap to winter wheels and had to do it in the freezing cold with numb fingers, a horrible task when doing it outdoors, so I try and do it no later than October. Hopefully it was a mild day for you today, as it was where we live.No point adding a photo seeing as both sets of wheels are the same.

Yep chain guides, vanos stuff, valley pan gasket, re-seat valves, heads skimmed and tested - a lengthy list with a hefty bill but a fraction of the cost a like for like car.
Nice, I think I found Lee when I needed my chain guides done back in 2017 and he did a top job - most places had no interest in doing them!Bazsm said:

New scuttle trim and corner pieces fitted after having the new windscreen fitted on Tuesday
Is that scuttle trim OEM Dan, I've read a number of posts over the years stating it doesn't fit properly? They fit perfectly fine; but they need to be warmed up if its cold, otherwise the rubber is really stiff
They also need pressing down hard so that the plastic grommets click into place and the screws then hold it down tightly

My summers look like they'll need replacing next year so I'll get some All Seasons and avoid having to swap wheels again.

I usually do it earlier in the year too but most of November was pretty mild, as it was yesterday, but my local forecast says there may be a frost tonight so I think I've just done it in time!

I've recently done that with my 730d, though the summer tyres still have very good tread so I'll probably keep swapping them over until the summers have worn out, then stick with all season. My summers look like they'll need replacing next year so I'll get some All Seasons and avoid having to swap wheels again.
