++ Yesterday ++

Dropped my Style 65s off with National Tyres in Preston to get the Hankooks fitted...

++Today++

Collected them today, got them home after a quick inspection as I had a meeting to get to... Said meeting cancelled; went out to clean the wheels thoroughly with citrus pre-cleaner etc. in readiness for ceramic coating them and saw this...

So they're going in for a full refurb; 3 wheels out of 4 damaged mad

Blessing in disguise maybe as the shadow chrome isn't winning me over... I think I'd like to get them done in a bright silver... So found a Silver E39 M5 on Google Images, fed that into ChatGPT and got it to render the car with the wheels in a bright silver

I think we have a winner!

Dropping them off this Sat AM first thing with my pal that has Tillings in Longton; powdercoat specialists and he'll do them whilst I'm away and will refit the tyres without damaging them; because he'd have hell of an issue running his business if he did that laugh

Maybe that has done you a favour!

I thought about Shadow Chrome when I had a set of wheels refurbed for my Silver Grey Z4, but when they said they couldn't guarantee a colour match if I kerbed one I went with silver instead.

Yes; I was toying with Ferric Grey again; but done that a good few times now and as superb a colour it is, I'm really liking how clean the 65s look in that rendering thumbup

I love the silver Dan as you know. I'm gutted for you with the damage from the tyre fitting too, that would've set me off like a rocket I reckon.

The E39 has been prepped ready for the road trip to The Highlands on Sunday

All fluids checked and topped up; tyre pressures checked and amended

16" spare wheel released of it's original 2001 Pirelli tyre biglaugh and a new Uniroyal Rainsport 5 fitted

Had the new bi-xenon headlights sorted by a pal who does MOTs; 60 seconds on his light box and they're pointing where they should be

And treated the old bus to brand new gen. BMW kidney grilles biggrin

So close to the first MOT in a decade.

Get it in action dude, nicely stripped and raw. So much win to be had. Tap out from the boring stuff.
Thanks. I've got a Kia for daily dog running duties and it's as bland to look at, as it is to drive. It's your typical SUV with a buttin for a hand brake. The E30 might not be big power but they're just good fun. Especially with a few tweeks.

My M3 has got a real flat finish to the pain and it seems the dirt sticks to it easily so I was thinking about getting it in for a polish and coating but after being inspired by a thread in the detailing section of PH I'm gonna give it a go myself tomorrow.

I always clean my own cars but I've not polished much so I bought this lot. Decided to try the legendary Fusso Wax that I never used as a teenager, it suggests a 12 month life, given mine will only be out for 9 of the nicer months of the year I'm hoping I can just re apply it each spring.

I bought some Fusso last year and tried it for the first time. I learnt that the key is to apply as little as possible, and not to use it on a hot day as it can leave smearing. I'm pleased with it and it is still effective over 6 months later.

Uh oh... Its all downhill from here biggrin

I've only ever used Fusso on my previous 130i but it worked really well

I'll use it on the E39 once the temps are up and this foul weather is behind us

Yeah, I've certainly got the bug for cleaning cars again (maybe not quite to your standards yet biggrin)

Picked up my mates DA and got to it. Pulled the car out and started with a decent wash and decon.

Got it into my make shift detailing booth, taped up and ready to get going. I got a set of floods on a tripod which worked a treat

Quick before and after on the boot;

It's not perfect but I reckon it's a good 75% there, for a 17 year old car I'm pretty happy with it! I've only polished one car before and that was 8 years ago so pretty happy with myself too! Got most of it done, just the passenger side doors and roof to polish then get some Fusso slapped on there!

Nice one, it's about 8 degrees tomorrow so should be fine (I checked and it can be applied in cooler temps no bother). I'll use it sparingly.

That looks a super job well done...

As you said its a 17 year old car. Sometimes folk expect far too much from a proper polish...

Unless the cars pristine or new, it'll never be concourse...

However, with a few good passes with a decent compound, it's amazing what you can achieve

I keep looking at 325ti Compacts, I keep getting memories from the track days I done in my old one. There's one local thats sat with flat tyres, it's a manual too! I have to fight the urge to knock and ask when I'm walking the dog.

They look lovely in that lighter colour, suits the wheels and the car really well.

Thank you Sir... I think they'll look spot on and looking forward to fitting them later this month as long as the temps are right etc

Drove the E39 up to The Highlands - usually takes c4.5 hours but took 6 today; numerous 50mph zones on the M6 North Lakes due to the rail bridges being replaced, and then horrendous downpours around Glasgow through to Stirling... And then it was dry

It's managed 268miles, door to door on half a tank; not bad for a thirsty V8 supping VPower biggrin

Not bad at all! Even the big boi motors can return sensible economy when they're cruising. They just plummet quicker with some enthusiastic driving!

Haha absolutely... Depending on how I'm feeling this week (if tonight's owt to go by I won't be doing much) mad then I'll need to be filling up soon enough. More so if we go across to Glenshee / Braemar, or up to the Cairngorms etc...
