Nothing sad with that Sam smile

When I do stuff like that, I line it all up etc haha

Which spring compressors do you use?
It’s quite daunting when it’s all load out! There are a lot of parts to get fitted.

Previously I tried some cheap Hilka ones but they were absolutely useless. I’ve just ordered a set of these which look better..

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07V1L9DVV/ref=redir_m...

If these are ste as well, I’ll see if a local garage will build the front assemblies up. I half toyed with buying a proper hydraulic jobbie but decided that it’d be overkill! hehe

They look solid enough; just ensure you use decent grease on the threads etc...

I've got these in my 'Tools' watchlist and think I may invest in them: https://www.amazon.co.uk/1000kg-Macpherson-Compres...

Not going down the coilover route; sticking with Sachs sport spec shocks and Eibach springs for the E39, so will need compressors soon enough to build it all up in the garage etc

They look really good (super easy to use too having just watched a YT vid. I saw them but was being tight hence the ones I’ve bought. At least they clamp on rather than just hook on and have a brace to keep them straight.

I have a similar set. They are great, similar set up to the main dealer ones I used to use. Just make sure you don’t use an air gun on them and keep the threads greased.

Yup, wrench only and liberal amounts of white grease always helps with these things.

Same with subframe bush tools etc...

Picked this sucker up from Sytner…

Got the car back together (mostly, just waiting for a new cabin filter to arrive).

And it starts and runs ok!

Cooling system bled..

I’ll take it for a wee spin later to make sure it doesn’t explode. Plus I need to burn off the degreaser etc….I stunk when I started it up and the crap on the manifold started to burn off. I ran it li h enough to get an oil reading and can’t see any leaks from the oil filter housing or oil cooler. Even having mot run for a few days and having had the battery connected, disconnected etc it still started better than before.

Tints removed

How it looked from the outside before I removed them:

Just too dark IMO!

And now:

Dropped off my F31 at the dealer for a change of brake fluid and some warranty work. They gave a very pleasant 530e touring as a courtesy car, shame I only drove about 6 miles in it.

Anyway the following report came back

Thankfully all covered under warranty

Makes a change from the usual worn brakes and tyres! At least the warranty is deal with it all.

Just collected the N/S wheels from Wheel Works in Crawley after being de-kerbed and re-shadow chromed.

Nice touch on supply the replacement M badges also

Now just waiting for the sun to set a little and the temp to drop, so that I can wash the 530i and M5 ready for their visits to BMR Performance later in the week

Just fiddled with my i-drive. Pressed software update, it asked for USB stick, although it usually does it over the air. Shrugged my shoulders, selected reverse to get out of my parking spot, then, hey-presto!, I now have the reversing tyre arcs in the rear vision image! Very surprised.

Lovely stuff. Are you happy with the work? Need to get all four of mine sorted!

Yeah; there was a bit of that, but thankfully they didn't give up too much of a fight...

Nicely done thumbup

You know I'm a big fan of 66s and probably going back to them for my summer tyres too; will sell the 37s on and get a set of staggered 66s or 32s in 17" flavour biggrin

This one pal: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sealey-TP696-5-5ltr-Manua...

I only paid £42 for it; god knows why it's double the price!

I have just bought this though as I've dropped the Sealey one and cracked it slightly:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/slredirect/picassoRedi...

The pipes aren't long enough as they come (not for my E39); but just ordered some longer pipe to rectify that smile
Ended up buying a 6l capacity type (like the Sealey) from Screwfix - turned up in Laser Tools box but is actually the same and worked well - if a little slow. First time I have done an oil change without jacking/crawling/losing the sump plug, etc, so a bit different but I am confident I got 99% of the old oil out - it took 7l to refill it so spot on for a 4.6.

Oil/air/pollen filters also changed while vacuum extractor did it's thing, as well as a quick hoover and tidy of the interior - much more relaxing and a lot less mess.

Yup; makes life much easier

Even on axle stands I can't fit under the car enough to undo the sump plug, so being able to do it from up top with no crawling & as you said, a lot less mess, is so much easier smile

I am indeed, I've been using Wheel Works for the past 5 years, having previously used Lepson's, and if Wheel Works current backlog is anything to go by, they have many other repeat customers using their facilities, in fact at lunchtime today I had to queue up behind 3 other customers wanting work to be undertaken, and all their lifts and parking spots occupied, so worth booking in advance if you can, otherwise I think they are quoting 7-10 days turn around compared to the normal 3 days.

Cheers Dan, feeling better now they are washed, just need to get the refurbed wheels refitted before it gets too hot tomorrow

Also have to agree with you, the 17" are a much better option, even when I have the 18" 65's available for direct comparison.
