Nicely done thumbup

You know I'm a big fan of 66s and probably going back to them for my summer tyres too; will sell the 37s on and get a set of staggered 66s or 32s in 17" flavour biggrin
Cheers Dan, feeling better now they are washed, just need to get the refurbed wheels refitted before it gets too hot tomorrow

Also have to agree with you, the 17" are a much better option, even when I have the 18" 65's available for direct comparison.
Yup; they really impressed me on the touring with Michelin PS4 tyres

Albeit I'd fitted all new Arnott bags, Eibach pro kit springs, all new Sachs sport spec shocks and the rear M5 ARB; but the way they allowed the car to drive and handle was superb, it never felt 'under-wheeled' at all

People forget that the Mtech II suspension for the E39 Sport straight-six cars was set for the 17" Style 66s! The Style 32s and 37s in 18" flavour were an upgrade; but they also added to more firmness in the ride etc

This is why I'll be going back to 17s on my E39 540i Sport; those and new shocks & springs will be the icing on the cake for it wink

19's are super comfy... providing you have Alpina shocks and springs wink

They look solid enough; just ensure you use decent grease on the threads etc...

I've got these in my 'Tools' watchlist and think I may invest in them: https://www.amazon.co.uk/1000kg-Macpherson-Compres...

Not going down the coilover route; sticking with Sachs sport spec shocks and Eibach springs for the E39, so will need compressors soon enough to build it all up in the garage etc
Just used the spring compressors that I bought….sooooooooooooo much better than the cheap Hilka ones that I fought with when fitting the springs to the 125i. For £40 they’re a proper bargain. First front damper assembly built up with zero swearing or frustration and no damage to the finish n the spring.

That's good to hear Sam; just bought them myself based on what you've just said...

I've bought a set of E39 M5 suspension that I'm going to take all the rubber bits from as they're in excellent order and reuse them for when I rebuild the new suspension for my E39; when I get round to buying it laugh

But means I can do that in the garage and bin the bits not needed sooner rather than later

This one pal: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sealey-TP696-5-5ltr-Manua...

I only paid £42 for it; god knows why it's double the price!

I have just bought this though as I've dropped the Sealey one and cracked it slightly:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/slredirect/picassoRedi...

The pipes aren't long enough as they come (not for my E39); but just ordered some longer pipe to rectify that smile
Ended up buying a 6l capacity type (like the Sealey) from Screwfix - turned up in Laser Tools box but is actually the same and worked well - if a little slow. First time I have done an oil change without jacking/crawling/losing the sump plug, etc, so a bit different but I am confident I got 99% of the old oil out - it took 7l to refill it so spot on for a 4.6.

Oil/air/pollen filters also changed while vacuum extractor did it's thing, as well as a quick hoover and tidy of the interior - much more relaxing and a lot less mess.
I've been using one for a while and it's always been slow, regardless of engine. Then on the last oil change I did, on an E85 3.0 Z4 I put a can of engine flush in it and got the engine warm. The oil came out quicker than my old gran can drain a yard of stout. I'd always thought engine flush was a snake oil but I'm a convert now.

Decided I couldn't face washing the excrement off the 1 Series myself, so took it to the local abandoned petrol station and paid some chaps £6 to wash it for me. Not the best for the paintwork admittedly, but after 163k miles mostly spent on the outside lane of the M6 the paintwork isn't the best anyway. It's cleaned up well but it's definitely a 2 yard car, with a bit of cement stuck on the bonnet, some serious gravel rash in the front bumper and some very small dents were things have been thrown up off the motorway at it.

Also picked up a basic wash kit from Halfords so I can tackle it myself next time, hopefully at the weekend so I can give it a decent polish. Got it:

Bucket x 2
Wheel Brush
Wash mitt
Many microfibre cloths
Sheepskin polish mitt
Auto Glym Shampoo and Conditioner

Could go one of two ways, I could use it all once then consign it to the shed for years, or I end up on this thread looking for tips of more stuff to buy smile

They worked a treat for me and were super easy to compress with a ratchet.

I found they worked best winding down from the top if that makes sense.

I won’t use them loads so can stomach £40. £100 is a bit rich for me on a tool that’ll get such infrequent use.

Front damper assemblies built up ready for the weekend, including the camber plates.

I also laid out all of the stuff to fit.

Front end;

Rear ended;

It’s going to be warm doing this on the drive this weekend!

Yeah; makes more sense that way, you're not hitting the shock with the ratchet then!

Did you do them on the floor or do you have a bench vice etc?

Just did them on the floor, perpendicular to them so should anything go wrong it’s shooting at the walls rather than me and my safety footwear!

Yup

I tend to do them between my spare alloys & tyres (winter set); I'm not precious about them and they make good stoppers, if that makes sense

Got the M140i back after getting the tailgate painted under warranty.

Priced getting the stone chips resolved on the bonnet and front passenger side wing at the same time. As they'd have had to do the top of the passenger wing and up the drivers door also, the quote came in at £1500 eek

Respectfully declined for now.

There might be a change of car lineup on the horizon next year so we'll maybe see where that takes us first, then decide from there.

Ouch. Wonder how much a good, independent body shop would charge.

Probably not far off; it's all about where they have to flat it of and feather it in etc..

When I had the front end refreshed on my touring; my pal had to do up the A pillars and along the tops of the doors otherwise it would have stood out a lot...

Agreed. Its hard to get away from the fact it needs four panels painted, even though only two of them have marks on them. As you say they need to feather it in otherwise it can be noticable.

And given its such a big noticable area it needs to be done "right" otherwise its noticable. Any minor blemishes would be seen.

Realistically they're charging £400 a panel there. If it was some older car i'd probably find a cheaper indie somewhere but right now given its just 3 years old if we're going to do it i'd rather it was done by a garage thats BMW approved and meets their standards.

Theres another place i can try close to us but i do think they'll be talking similar.

Fitted the refurbed shadow chromed wheels on the N/S and torqued the lug nuts to spec.

Now ready for a visit to BMR Performance tomorrow morning for new thrust arms, brake fluid service and hunter alignment, followed by the M5 on Friday for a VANOS rebuild, service and MOT, wish me luck.

It's not going to be a cheap couple of days for me.

I suppose it’s not that bad when you look at it like that. I thunk I paid £300 for a bumper repair a d paint last summer.
