Fitted rear head restraints in the E36. £25 delivered. smile

I had that trim. The cloth section faded from charcoal-grey to a more blue-ish grey, as seems to have happened in the picture, not an unpleasant change though.

45 mpg during a 536 mile Euro trip. Mega restraint. Eco Pro and coasting.

That's a good effort - how quickly did it drop?

Mine used to be really quite frugal in Eco Pro, cruising on the motorway....it'd soon drop though.
It normally floats around London so back on its manor it’s skunked biggrin

First visit to the BMW forums on PH! I have recently changed my Discovery 4 for a 2015 X5 SE 30d, getting on really well with it and I cant get over how little diesel it uses compared to the D4!

Just a couple of questions if anyone can help:

Run-flats - currently on 19 inch wheels with 50 profile Goodyear run-flats, they seem very hard almost like the pressures are at 40-50psi (adjusted to 33f 34r), does changing to non run flat tyres really make a big difference to the ride?

On the wheel size, has anyone had experience in putting a slightly taller tyre thinking 255 55 19 (square setup) on a F15 X5 instead of the 255 50 19's it has standard, the upper control arm seems to have just about 3/4 an inch clearance to the current tyre so theoretically it should be ok. Looking for a bit more sidewall and clearance (rutted tracks etc).

Thanks in advance.
I'd be inclined to look to the run flats first, though an SUV with a suspension tuned for sportiness is always going to be relatively firm.

I'd an E70 new back in the day, and the suspension was notably firm in it compared to the 535d i came out of.

Two 275/35 R19 Michelin MPS5 ordered for the Mrs for her Z4.

Fitting next friday.

10% discount code on those particular tyres with Blackcircles brought the price down to £538 including balancing and fitting.

I'll get them to swap round the front two rims on the car too. The drivers side had some kerb rash before she bought it which the dealership refurbed, but conscious that wheel now has a little less "lip" on it now, if we were to clip a kerb again. So that'll just be a swap of front left to front right.

Modern runflats are much better than they used to be,
I remember back in 2006 when we had the E90 330d, the Bridgestone runflats on that felt like you had concrete wrapped around the wheels! In saying that...the MPS4S on the F82 M4 can feel like that occasionally as well...because the suspension is so hard!

I know I've mentioned this before, but I was properly unlucky when I swapped the runflats to normal on the F13 640d(20" rims). I suffered 3 punctures over a rally short space of time on the normal tyres, so naturally I regretted swapping them. Not to mention the grief I got from my missus too, because she was the main user of the 640.
Bridgestone RE050A...irked

Replaced with Goodyear Eagle F1 RFTs and they were much better.

They were amongst the worst tyres I've ever had fitted, including some Event nonsense that ended up on my 328i.

No grip, bone hard ride, turned into concrete when they got older if the cracking issues hasn't caused them to be removed years before that.

Trying not to fit anything other than Pilot Sports to my BMWs now...

I agree; absolute doggy do.

Up there with the Dunlop things that my Z4 had fitted.

Clean MOT pass for the third year running smile

Booked into a well-regarded local indy to get the rocker cover gasket sorted next week. He quoted me £225 for the job, including parts, which seems very reasonable for London.

It’s also a fraction of the £1,120 I was quoted by a local “BMW specialist” indy who told me (without even looking at the car) that they’d also need to replace the rocker cover and bolts and do an oil change. lol

Lots of people reckon EBC are krud. Gave these fronts a hammer on the M140i and I’d say they’re agreeable. Solid performance, decent money. The brand doesn’t deserve such a bad vibe.

I tried EBC red, orange and blue on my E30 and E21 track cars. They literally fell apart in the E21 and were just not very good overall. I usually use Hawk blue nowadays. They work well from cold, so ideal for the road, but can cope with track use. They're also reasonably priced.

Given it to my father in law in exchange for a van…

Okay, only temporarily. Moving house and it has a very poorly rear wheel bearing now. I started doing it myself, and thought “what the fk are you doing? It’s an awful job, and you’ve more important things to be doing”.

The van is a loaner they have for their trade customers. I always forget how fun it is to drive a van for a short while. Wouldn’t want to daily it, especially with no AC!

It does appear to be an awful job. My 335i gave the garage a torrid time….although the bill stung a bit, I was glad that I wasn’t trying to do it on my drive.

EBC RP-1 (and RP-X) are the latest race pad compounds.

EBC went through a dodgy period over 5 to 10 years ago. Maybe more. They are still known by some to be rubbish from their experiences during this period. I believe they are much better now. I have had some of their Yellows on my 550 and on my 335 before I sold it. They are great for road use. A tiny bit squeaky unless I give them a good prod every now and again.

In fairness that's exactly when I had by poor experience with them. If they wanted to send me some of their latest for my E36 I'll try them out. laugh

I've had nothing but issues with EBC pads and stopped using them a good few years back (ran them on my 1st 2 E39s - 2012 to 2015) but they'd eat through discs or not wear well

Greenstuff IMO have been crap for years; Redstuff & Yellowstuff was where it's meant to be at; found the Redstuff very dusty and the Yellowstuff just not that good

Went back to Ferodo DS2500 pads and they were great (still bloody dusty though) and then ATE Ceramic pads which I found to be superb (they were on my latter E39s)

On my F01 I ran OEM BMW pads (Jurid) and have stuck with them for my F31 (albeit that's in extended warranty so it made sense to stick with OEM)

For me now; for an every day road driving car; I'll stick with OEM BMW or the likes of ATE

If I were to go for a weekend car, so to speak; I'd look at more aggressive compounds. I know my pal really rates the EBC Blue pads on his E39 M5 paired with OEM BMW discs - never tried them myself
