As far as I know there is very little you can do with these engines to increase power.
There was one 2.5 that you could put the intake from a 2.8 on but can't remember which one.
Just enjoy it for what it is, a silky smooth 6 cylinder. Think of it as a cruiser, not a bruiser, if you can't then probably best to swap it in for an E46 3.0.

M52TUB23 on your e36? I don't think you do. You might be referring to the M52TUB25 or M52TUB28, but they were never fitted to the E36 (the Z3 and E46 got them).
On the off chance you have a M52TUB28, you can fit the M54B30 inlet manifold to them, but you need to retain your cable-actuated throttle body from your M52TUB28 and buy an adapter plate to allow it to fit.

I had an e36 325i and a 328i once and back in those days everything was far simpler, now there is a variation of a variation of an engine but back then you always knew a 323, 325 and 328 as they all had 2 tips on the exhaust anything less was 1... The 323 was a 2.5 engine but without the variable valve timing, the 325i had the variable timing and the 328i was basically 'strangled' (due to tax reasons or something). In fact you could tune a 328i not far off a 330i by putting the 325i inlet manifold on, (the 328 had the manifold from a 320i apparently) and removing the restriction in the air filter housing. but all of this was only a few horsepower, buy a faster car if you want power, or just enjoy what you got. I believe turbo kits may be available as they are for the e46 lol.. But you need to be sure what you have. If its a 320, then give up :-). I've been trying to make cars go faster for years and I've learned that anything naturally aspirated gains minimal amounts even if you chuck a lot of money at it

I mounted that engine with the e46 electric wires from a 323ci e46 coupe..On the off chance you have a M52TUB28, you can fit the M54B30 inlet manifold to them, but you need to retain your cable-actuated throttle body from your M52TUB28 and buy an adapter plate to allow it to fit.

I have a friend with 328 e36 with intakes 330 on admission and 325 on exhaust,a good soft and another little modifications and easy beat 300-350hp diesel cars on 402mBunoaica Ionut said:

Eh?? you'd be lucky to get much more than 220bhp with a e36 328i, they were 190bhp standard if I recall?? so a few upgrades still wouldn't make it much quicker, so to beat a car with 100bhp more?? someone is telling porkies somewhere, or was the 328 supercharged? or the diesel was 90bhp really???Bunoaica Ionut said:

The "go to" intake mods for these are 325 intake manifold, which needs some modification/re-plumbing removal of the DSC throttle body, proper CAI & smoothing out the inlet path.
Couple these with an M3 exhaust, and external fuel rail regulator with 0.5 bar increase in pressure & a good map & you will be about where I was.
Don't forget that is the 328, but I was told at the time that as the 2.5 engine is lighter internally & revs better you will still get fairly close to it.
Historically the 323 & 328 were fitted with the puny inlet pipes from the 320 to strangle them back. The 325 had the full-flow inlet manifold.
