i-distract then i-crash is more apt.
Horrible.

My understanding is that when the new 5 series was introduced,
the prices on the old E39 5 series went UP, not down,
in response to the new model.

Was I-Drive to blame ? I am not sure.

Also, I might be dreaming this, but with a later car
[ 3 series ? ] and later I-Distract system, wasn't it made an optional extra instead of mandatory as on the new 5 series ?

Clarification sought.

Agreed, phatgixxer can throw abuse all he likes, but the fact is that most people i speak to would rather save some money and do without the i-distract.
It is complicated and unnecessary.

(I couldn't understand why a certain someone would actually enjoy the 'torture' that is i-drive, until i noticed what they do for a living.......no names of course.)

You may believe that to be true, but it is in fact complete bollox.

Thanks.

I float a suspicion and ask for clarification and
I get abuse in return.

You might consider it prudent to tone it down a bit
in future.

Angus puts it succinctly. Only iDiots can't use iDrive.

Your opinion is at total variance with the staff
of Top Gear magazine. With the possible exception
of Clarkie, I wouldn't say they were idiots.

You weren't on the development team for I-Drive
by any chance were you ?

Time to get down the dealers and give a new shape five series
a bit of exercise to help form my own opinion.

It's hardly abuse.

[/quote]I'll listen to (some) magazine writers on how a car drives, but make my own mind up on a secondary control system, particularly one that attracts so much sensationalist criticism. It is required in motoring journalist circles to kick iDrive in the same way that one kid is always bullied in the school playground. If you actually stop and talk to that kid, you often find that there is nothing wrong with him.

It's a valid point. Clarkson et al complain that the m-cars are too complicated now and the i-drive doen't help, but hell it's a +60k car. If you're going to live with a car that you've dreamed of owning, which most people will have done if they choose this car, then spend a few hours getting to know one another. How hard is that?

Too hard apparently.

dcb, do you own a car with iDrive, or have you spent a decent length of time with one? I suspect not, but seeing as you seem to be able to postulate, blather and puff whilst typing, I think you would be a natuaral on the silver wheel.

There is nothing wrong with iDrive except the fashionable, but ill informed trend to lampoon it. Try playing with it for 30 minutes and you might actually "get it".

Or, sit back and spew vitriol about something you clearly know very little about.

Ive bitten the bullit and put a deposit down on this 55 plate 535d M Sport Individual. Dont think Ive ever seen this colour combo and it looks even better in real life.

Picking it up next Wednesday...I cant wait. it has an Individual interior, Media and Visibility packs, sunroof, style 172 19" wheels, rear spoiler and Ive also asked for the rear windows to be tinted prior to delivery.

May give it a week or 2 before I ring DMS

Aeroresh,

Is that Oxford Green II or something like that? Looks nicely understated. Great choice. Love those 19's.

Regarding the iDrive drivel that those "armchair" users are spouting. I have one word. Popycock! iDrive is great. I was sceptical, having heard Clarkson et al. However, having owned a car with it, it's simple to use and I've never had a problem. Crikey, even Angus isn't too old to get the hang of it.

Give it a try. You've nothing to lose, apart from you misguided prejudice.

Matt

Is the colour Onyx?

Nice car. I like those wheels.

Personal taste, but I'd dump the wood and get piano black. It looks great.

Like the colour, same wheels as mine and they are actually easier to clean than I thought they would be.

Agree with Zod re the wood, however its better than my cross hatched aluminium which I think is v chav. Though I have never looked into changing it, didn't know you could.

You can, but it's not cheap.

Very nice colour combo, the woods not that bad, I've seen a helluva lot worse. Cost to change might be prohibitive and better spent with DMS anyway.
