It is the correct key, it goes in just fine, and I have used it before. I did try using my 535i's key on it, and the 760's key on the 535i, and although the blanks are the same size, they will not go in at all.
Not sure about the E66, but on my E39 if the actuators for the locks are not working, the force required to turn the key is considerable - as in you feel like the key might break.
This!

Lots of WD40 in the lock; let that dry off. Redo with lithium grease and then use the key to turn, and turn hard a full 90º if you can. That should, open the lock up...

But wondering if the battery is low and it's stopping any part of the electrical system working the locks too?

A couple of pics of my 430i in Estoril Blue. Really enjoying this car having moved from my E89 Z4 in December. A few personal touches made, notably replacing the single sided exhaust with the dual exit backbox from a 440i. Lovely improvement in tone and burble too which was a bonus.

I am certain that the obstacle to them turning is electrical, not mechanical. There is no feeling of friction. Battery completely dead AFAIK.

I really like this. Cognac leather on Estoril? Something about Estoril and gloss black that really works. Some effort to get the exhaust done too.

Hang on are you putting the key in the door or the bootlid - do they have a lock on the bootlid between the reg plate lights?

Thanks very much! Correct, Cognac leather. I was torn between grey and red or blue and brown.. Pleased with my decision smile

I wanted red leather on grey, but when you find the right car its something you have to do. I love Cognac, first choice for me but v rare, Also love Oyster but rare and also worry about marks / cleanliness.

My black on grey is billed as boring but there is something about it I love - I am more about the outside than in. When clean its also a nice mix. Your estoril and cognac is a lovely colorful vibe, good to see.

Posted this car before, I think. E66 760Li LCI (2005/55), bought nearly two years ago at just shy of 260,000 miles (of which 201k were done prior to its first MoT at three years old!). Currently laid up owing to lack of need for it, and the fact that when it was last in use in 2020, the intermittent misfire on one cylinder had become a persistent one on all twelve. Now it has drained its battery and I can't even get into it to charge it. Any ideas?
Yeah my E65 locks had stuck after being laid up for 18+ months, spray a bunch of plus gas in them and apply strong turning pressure with the key, and apply force in different directions while holding turned. do this a few times and they should let go. They've been ok since. I've got soft close doors and boot lid but you should too having a 760li, not sure if the normal close type on these and other cars are different internally.

The other way to go about it is as the garage mine had been laid up at did, literally rip out the front grille (£90) and upper duct (£30), cut the bonnet release cables (£40) and pull on the wires to get it open (there's a latch on each side). Then apply jumper cables to the terminals, voila.

For the battery my advice is just stick a brand new (AGM) one on, I used a normal one to get going and swapped it for an Exide EK950 which in my research looked to be the best value. Don't forget to register it in INPA.

Aye there's a boot lid lock on the grab handle bit, you put the key vertically upwards.

Unfortunately on an N62 powered E65 with adaptive drive neither of those are an uncommon sight. hehe

What's happened to that E65 rear axle?

Yes, the LCI E65/66 has key barrels both in the driver's door and bootlid (above the registration plate). Mine has soft close doors and boot, and double-glazed windows (so breaking one would be very difficult and replacing it a PITA). I'm going to call out Green Flag next week, try to get a charger onto the starter or alternator.

Picked up a X6 40d today - first BMW for a few years and been impressed with the quality so far. Needs new front tyres which as i'm finding, are quite expensive when they get to 20"

Needs a really good polish as the previous owner used the local hand wash places and there are lots of buttons and features to get used to

At the risk of regaining my reputation in this thread for being an arsey git, what is the point of the X6? Is there anything it does better than an X5? It always struck me as a spectacularly pointless thing - like an X5, only with less headroom and boot space. Stylish it ain't... although BMW have made far worse carbuncles since.

why does it need a point?

I didn't go looking for one, but the deal was too good too pass and its so much better than the Tiguan it replaces. We don't need to haul a load of family stuff around so don't have the need for the extra boot height of an X5.

I like them because you don't see that many on the road. its not just another xxx or yyy that you see all over the place.

Like my old E63 - i didn't really like them when they came out but think they have got better with age - but then thats my taste - just as well we all don't like the same thing

I hope so for me personally! I did everything that would need them to come out for, so fingers crossed.

A dynamic drive hose burst on the flexy bit through corrosion (steel wires inside), and the only way to remove them from the anti roll bar is to drop it down. You can see the 4 new pipes. My bar looked like it had washed up on a beach so I got a mint low mile one from Texas, and new bushes, mounts, links. Also subframe bushes and their foam damper rings, eccentric bolts and the control arms.

Double glazing, fancy. Whatever you do though, do not break the rear glass. It gets behind the rear comfort seats, insulation etc, I've got mine out to get lumbar working on both and found like a takeaway container's worth of broken glass behind there, spent the last week on and off picking it all out. Mine must have been rear window though.

Starter or alternator, that's genius. I reckon alternator is the easier way as after taking undertray off you can just reach up to it, see big gaping hole on the right. The V12 is the same.

Close up of the hoses, there's 4 sections here that join to the hard lines running to the valve block

I have a strange soft spot for the X6. I have no idea why, but they do always look better in the metal, they have good presence without the blocky look of the X5.

I'd probably be thinking about silver wheels on that one though. You could probably buy a set of tidy silver 19s for the difference that inch makes in the tyre prices.

I agree, black makes the wheels look small so am on the hunt for some reasonably priced replacements. I know most prefer the bigger wheels, but i'm thinking 19's would give a slightly more comfortable ride
