You are not alone! I love modern BMW’s too. What strikes me when you do see them together is how large cars are now. I’m sure a current 3 Series would probably be larger than an E39 5 Series!

That's why I went for the 240, nippy little cars over a fast bus any day.

Same here, love the older cars and would automatically be drawn to an E30 or an E46 over the modern day equivalent. Probably due to the rarity of seeing them these days and the fact that theres so many modern BMW's on the road. If only the older cars where practical enough to use as a daily

Yes, me too.

Perhaps uncharitably, my assumption is that the new one is either a company car or some poor soul has maxed themselves on their monthly payments to try and impress their neighbours.

Some look great, like the current M3 and the last gen 6.

But I think the reality is that, as with most premium cars, they age really well. Remember how awful the E60 5 series was 15 years ago? Time has been really kind to the point where I really like them now. Same with the F80 M3 I mention above, I wasn't sure at first but over time (and in the right colour) I think it looks better than the F82 M4.

In years to come, I'm sure there will be those that say the F10 was a great looking thing.

I looked at a few e39 2 or 3 years ago and all were showing signs of rust. Now they seem to be more expensive as owners see e39 m5 prices and for some reason think their e39 525 or 530 is also worth more. Wrong.

As much as it pains me I agree. Anyone who spends more than £4k on an E39 530i is mad.

4k is fine if its not tatty or showing rust. They just dont exist. They're all 2k (if that) cars priced at 4k by dreamers.

They’re all rusty. The ones that aren’t have been repaired. Unfortunately many not to a good standard.

Yeah, I think thats about as good as a BMW can look.
Definitely - that is truly stunning! thumbup

But I'll bet it's rather large! I only realised the other day that my E91 is as big as the Granada Scorpio I had back in 1990 - it certainly doesn't feel as large on the inside!

It is a few inches longer than the M5 I had previously, although it feels a bit smaller and certainly sharper. They're both large cars and not going to be as nimble as an M2 or M3/4 but you can still place them accurately on the road and get a fair hustle on when you want to.

Running in service Friday - so looking forward to exploring the red line on the weekend.
