Hi

I have an e39 M5 and some of the pixels are away on the instrument cluster and radio display. Has anyone fixed these? I see a guide on ebay. If not what's the best cheapest way to fix them.

Cheers

Sadly this is a common problem as the circuit boards go 'dry' after time so I have read.
I have a document with instructions and pictures on how to repair the problem. Most people get a new binnacle fitted which costs just shy of a grand.
I dont know anyone who has done this proceedure and take no responsibility for it! If your OK with a spanner and want the details post up your email and I will send it to you. I dont know how to upload a word document.

Thanks, Please email me @ jwie@yahoo.com. I see companies online who if you send it to them they charge about £200. Anyone used them.

I would also check on prices from your main-dealer.

Looking back at the invoices in the history of my newly acquired E39 540i Touring the original/previous owner was initially quoted £612 for a new instrument cluster in August '06.

He actually had it done this year January '08 just before I bought it and was charged £397...and I have no missing pixels.

Maybe it's coming down?

Jer, where are you based? There are a number of people who will repair your pixels, often the problem is pretty simple and can be connector related.

Hi, could you send this to me as well please?

chris@glenmark.co.uk

My 528i has the same problem. I wouldn't pay to have it done but if I can do it myself for free then I'll give it a go.

Thanks, Chris.

RW Weaver in Cathcart would be my choice as a first port of call.

The ebay guy is supposed to be really good. Here's the link to a guide for a E38.

Brilliant service, I live in Dorset so 30 mins to drive to Southampton, he was gone 40 mins and came back, plugged it in and its been fine ever since. £80 for an E39, highly recommended.
