Well I got the helmet back tonight.

Meh, is my reaction.

Colours are right, great.

faces look better but still not great. for some reason he cant do circles.

few wee areas where the lines are a over shoot a bit.

and one kinda piss poor bit where the track sticker that was on before has been covered up so he can paint it. But the colour from underneath is coming through at the edges of the sticker.

Not to mention he now cant get the side visor cover back on. It pinged right off the second I checked the visor.

On a whole its ok but not really that good. gutting really
So, he's taken your helmet and probably made it look worse than it was originally and you're not demanding he either replaces your helmet or makes it good...?
Small claims court, if you ask me... Or, if you can't advertise his name on PH, how about posting a pic showing all your friends on Facebook what a "good job" he did?

Ive not paid for the job yet, as we speak he is trying to fix the visor cover and get it to fit.

its not as bad as before not by a long way. Im just wondering how perfect these things can actually be before demanding he fixes it? The colour coming through obviously shouldnt be but the face might be the best someone can do free hand.

How do you think it was done in the first place?

If he can paint it should be damn near perfect, that's what you paid for after all. If he can't paint then he shouldn't be charging people by pretending he can. Either way, if you handed over money the quality should be excellent.

The Arai would be cool if you could have your own chin.

With regards to cost, I paid nearly £600 for my plain Arai. It's a super fit, comfortable and really light. Just a shame it's only suitable for cars...

suppose just I've never seen an actual painted on in the flesh and I just wondered how good they could be.

if it just had they few faults fixed it would be great. but I can't see him doing it again. half of the problem is that it was a friend from works mate who done it. now he does this for a living it's not just some random who wanted to have a go. and I get the impression that they both think I'm being fussy.

if it had the few faults fixed it would be great. I even told him not to worry about the track helmet sticker just go over it I'll get another but he obviously didn't listen to me.

oh and if he ever gets the cheek cover back in place. he spent 45 minutes trying to get it back onto position.

it came winging off the second I opened the visor part of me thinks he tried to cover that up so I wouldn't notice for him to get his money.

In which case tell him to get onto photoshop or something and make a template! Mask it and spray it - from memory it's a smiley face with hard edges isn't it? Not like he's painting a portrait!

he has a snobbery over using templates. he sees then as cheating.

Dont pay him a penny. Instead ask for a brand new helmet as he's screwed yours up.

With all due respect, he can be as snobby as he likes, if he cocks things up it's time that he swallowed his pride and did the job he's paid to do - properly!

FFS is he called Michaelangelo or something? Painting a helmet, you've got to use templates and/or friskets. You might do a bit of fine lining, freehand, with a brush but that's about all.

Have you checked that he's used the right kind of paint? Judging by his painting 'skills', he doesn't have a clue what he's doing. He may have compromised your helmet by using the wrong stuff!

right I thought it was piss poor and this thread has just confirmed it.

I'll be honest im gutted, ive wanted this design for over a year I searched and searched for hizzys helmet in my size but couldnt get it. It took me ages to save for it as my pay took a drop and my hours were cut and I couldnt justify wasting all that money on a helmet. The first thing I done pretty much when I got my rise was go out and get the lid. I was like a kid at christmas. Now I actually dont want to look at the bloody thing.

I guess ill just need to get him to put right the wrong bits and if he wont refuse to pay or get him to lower his price so I can get it done else where.

That wouldnt work, when I gave it to him I thought he done this full time or at least as a part time job kinda thing. Like as a registered company.

Turns out he used to be but is no longer. I never thought it would be a problem as I seen his other work and it was great mines just looks woeful.

well turns out he broke a clip off the helmet not the visor cover.

He is away to see if he can get it fixed or get a replacement part.

I told him I want the bits done again and he said he will do it.

The problem is he is a really nice guy he has just had no luck with this helmet or doesnt know what he is doing.

I lol'd sorry.

I hope he fixes this for you. I kinda feel sorry for both his incompetance and the fact you've had a perfectly new helmet ruined by some dodgy painting.

The green smiley face was class. Reminded me of a puke smiley.
