JH certainly has a big fan base but I never quite "got" him myself. Entertaining to watch at times but an on/off rider in terms of consistency & results & that is evidenced sadly by his crashes that have led to most of his problems (& considerable injuries-hip replacement ? wow!)
Err, thanks Chris but I hardly know you!sprinter1050 said:
Unfortunately the sport is littered with riders-I could name a few but won't- who attracted big fan bases but never achieved major titles or maximum potential.
Hopper's last year in BSB will definitely go down as his best racing. Who can forget that last race at Brands?
Why is it unfortunate, that riders who never achieve a major title or maximise their potential, attract a big fan base???Hopper's last year in BSB will definitely go down as his best racing. Who can forget that last race at Brands?

Riders like them often help draw people to the sport but don't get what they deserve, though you could argue that sometimes they do ??
I remember in the film Faster about Moto GP, John Hopkins took quite a lead role due to how quick he was from a young age, he was injuried in that and the doctor in the film said his pain threshold (as were all the Moto GP riders) was exceptionally high as was his commitment to sports rehabilitation.
I just found this but hope he comes back:

Harris and Easron both British Supersport titles behind them . . . Not an easy to,win championship.
For me Hopper wasted his chance in GP's through drink, being too pissed to ride on a Friday at 1 GP for Kawasaki for instance. He took time out to clean himself up, I've never really got him. He's American claiming to be more British than he is, he's wasted something so special as to have that talent and the chance to show it and therefore I've never been a fan.
But when he's good, he's outstanding and I enjoy watching him race, especially on the 500's.
I wish him well for the future . . .

Yes... I know that.... Karl also had the European super stock championship......... But I have a feeling that when they were at their best, if things had been a bit different, ie different management, different choices, and different luck ... Both could have gone onto bigger things....But like they say...... If ifs and buts, were candy and nuts etc etc
Either way....... Many many great riders never become champions..... But we still support them, and admire them...well I do anyway
I wasn't a fan at all until he came to BSB. Always seemed a rider was either very unlucky or just didn't cut it somehow before that. Really warmed to him last year and realised he really is properly talented on a bike plus a decent bloke. Admired the way he was going about rebuilding his reputation in the sport and getting back to motogp.
Shame it hasn't worked out so far.
