Any fast bikes wanting to take on supercars?

Sorry to say. loon ,but you are very mistaken with that view ,when it comes to getting the last 10mph Out of a bike , you need to know what is required .
I have seen many a guy turn up at Elvington / Woodbridge and struggle to beat 170 .
As for the v rod talk, the car guys will be laughing their sphericals off .
If I can see a genuine 170 I will be more than happy with that. This could be the start of something else! I have seen many a guy turn up at Elvington / Woodbridge and struggle to beat 170 .

Word to the wise - 9 foot wide cars with 400+ bhp are actually quite quick away from skinny little B roads and traffic jams every half a mile. I'm guessing the organiser wants some bikie meat to make his Supercar event more satisfying.
There has been two responses so far from people with one post each, probably typed by their wives, casually mentioning Hayabusas and ZZR1400's. I vote you let those blokes go.

But we're not talkin about dragstrip cars are we? We're talking about a bunch of rich kids with fast cars all equipped with launch control.
My M3 is a piece of Pisa to launch flat out. Set the launch control, plant the throttle and of we go. Driver input amounts to pushin the pedal to the floor and holding onto the steering wheel.
Hardly the sign of a genius driver.

I've been out with the club before I turned to 2 wheels and Adam is a sound guy, but don't be under the impression you're being invited along to kick their cars asses! The club isn't called supercardriver for nothing, there will be some bloody quick stuff there and will no doubt want to wipe the floor with anything two wheeled that turns up.
They won't have pro drivers (or I assume not) launching the cars, but a lot of the cars will have launch and traction control, versus joe bloggs taking his bike down for a go down the strip. Don't expect it to be easy. IMO unless you've got the right bike and you've done a bit before you won't have much of a chance of beating some of the machinery they will have present.
That's me out then

Still not a lot of skill in going fast in a straight line, even less in a car.
If you got in something like this...........With that attitude, you'd be in for a rude awakening...in hospital probably.

With all due respect, they're not talking M3s, they're talking fast cars. 1000+ BHP won't be a 'simple' super - or even hyper - car. It'll be a heavily (and read incredibly heavily!) breathed on car, which won't have a launch control system that can cope (unless they're some sort of team run affair and have thrown £100,000's at it). It'll be trying to spin its wheels in the first four gears (at least) in the dry, and snaking about if the tyre pressures are decimals of psi out. Simple, it won't be. The only production 1000+ BHP car has already been denied (unless they've a Hennessey, but don't think any customers do yet?), so it must be modified cars.My M3 is a piece of Pisa to launch flat out. I'm not a great fan of straight line type things either, but to say it requires zero skill and is comparible to getting your BMW production saloon car off the line is a little harsh

Yeah, I seriously doubt he meant that. I don't think anyone would say that launching a dragster (of any kind) or competing in drag racing doesn't require skill, because that's nonsense. But going flat out in a properly developed car or bike that's designed to handle doesn't. Once you've got it off the line it's really just a case throwing gears at it and holding on.
Oh I know, I was just playing devil's advocate because the comment was LoonR1 said:

And not all cars are born equal LoonR1 said:
On that basis we may as well have the car vs bike TT discussion again.
Heavily modded one offs vs road legal standard spec bikes.
Yep. I can't think of a standard car running anywhere near 1000bhp though - even Lamborghini's flagship £300,000 Aventador is 'only' 700bhp, to put it into context.Heavily modded one offs vs road legal standard spec bikes.
I'm not saying it's going to be a fair/worthwhile contest up against a standard roadgoing bike, just pointing out that launching a 1000bhp car is going to take a fair bit of skill

I wrote it not the wife. Havn't we all had 1 post on a forum at one time ? And yes they were casual comment but they were made with qualification behind them. I belive one of the pre-requistes for joining the PH site is not to be a nobber. Anyone who is missguided enough to think going fast in a straight line is easy obviously has never actualy been 'fast'. To reach over 200mph over a mile takes a bit of doing. Try it over half a mile its a more difficult, try to push 200 in 7 or 8 seconds and your in for a riding lesson.
A couple of questions. Where is the longest / fastest straight on a uk motor racing circuit, how long is it and what is the highest speed and by what ?

But the event is not about boring M3's which are so yesterday. It's about going up against modified GTR's with 1200 and above hp. The owners of these fine beasts have crafted them to make big power and big power is hard to launch it is a skill. The faster the vehicle the more skill required. My M3 is a piece of Pisa to launch flat out. Set the launch control, plant the throttle and of we go. Loon I genuinely don't want to cross swords with you mate but you do have a negative blinkered view on things. If you don't like this thread why even comment as all you are doing is alienating people?
I'm sure Andy Frost doesn't think the same as you about quarter mile racing or any other quarter mile racer. A whole industry exists solely because there was enough interest to sustain it and the following is both massive, skilled and very dedicated.
You having a bad week or what? Lighten up fella

Depends what you're driving though. I've done 180mph at Brunters in a few road cars and it was as easy as keeping it planted. The only 'hard' part is getting a launch fast enough to give you the room to get to the top speed and that's mostly taken care of by computers now anyway.Anyone who is missguided enough to think going fast in a straight line is easy obviously has never actualy been 'fast'. Yes, if we're talking modified cars it's probably a different kettle of fish in the launch stage, which inevitably lasts longer the more power you have.
But, if anyone thinks going fast in a straight line outside of drag racing is a challenge (massive crosswinds/blow outs/mechanicals not withstanding)... perhaps you shouldn't be in a car/on a bike!

more so when you consider most will run plate type LSDs and will snap sideways when a load of power is applied from standstill. Watch some of the top UK hillclimb cars to see evidence of this (these will DESTROY 1200hp GTRs and the like! On the few occasions Ive raced in a fast 911 on a track (albeit not against 200bhp variety) against R1,Blade 916 etc the car has destroyed the bike, some of which depending on rider are so slow round the twistys.I never would have belived it until I tried, straight line bike wins, unless you can get to around 150 plus at which point the car usually wins.
