Hi BB'ers

Has anybody any experience of getting replacement keys for a Givi monolock top box?

I've bought a box (E450) off a guy on an another forum and the keys have gone awol in transit, a local locksmith has got it open but I still need the keys. The only option on the internet seems to be to buy a new barrel plus keys but fitting looks a bit of a faff. I've got the existing barrel number so hoping to just get keys for that if at all possible.

I've dropped Givi an email but their after service looks variable from what I've read.

Thanks for any help.

Givi will send you a key if they've got one around. Otherwise, you're in for the faff.

Hello

We sell Givi stuff at work. I'm sorry to say you're st out of luck without a key I'm afraid. The only thing you can get from Givi is a blank key ready to cut.

Have you got the 3 digit code off the barrel? Or better still have you got the barrel out?

If you know the three digit code I'll look through the box of spares I've got (literally hundreds) and see if I've got the same. Worst case If you can get the lock barrel out I can send you a spare lockset (or at least make one up for you).

Let me know smile

Thanks UnluckyTimmeh - way more helpful than Givi as I haven't heard back from them yet

The barrel number is 055, anything you can do is much appreciated

I've got a couple more questions re fititng the rack to the bike (a '98 Fazer 600 commuter tool):

1. Other than where it attaches by the rear indicators (see next question!) do you know if any additional bolts are required? I wasn't povided with any so hoping I can use the existing bolts on the bike

2. A bolt has seized in 1 of the rear brackets (not checked if left or right yet)that mounts near the rear indicator plus the bolt head has sheared off, the seller assures me he was using it like this with no bother, but I'd prefer to pick up a new bracket and bolt; are they avialable?

Although fittng looks fairly straight forward I'm going to scan the internet for intructions.

Cheers

I have an 02 Foxeye Fazer with Givi rack - the front of the arms uses the rear foorest hangers and the rear bolts down with the grabrail mounts (inside the rear plastics) - I *think* they supplised longer Allen bolts for the footrests as the standard bolts aren't long enough - but they should be typical size Allen bolts if you can source separately?

I need to measure it up against the bike properly, looking like the weekend for that though

Bought a new set of arms to take a second hand Givi box and rack. The arms came with longer bolts for 2 of the 4 positions, cant remember which 2.

Only had one key supplied so looked at options, new barrel and 2 keys wasn't much and as long as you note how the catch goes together, fitting was only a 20 min job with screw driver and circlip pliers.

Hi Mate,

I've found a key biggrin

PM me your address and I will get it in the post to you.

Normally all the fitting kit be it bolts or whatever would come with all the racking. You would get a parts list with them showing all spare parts that are available for order. If you still need something to make it fit, you can alwasy post a picture of it and I'll send it through to our guys in Givi technical smile

Givi tech support are excellent I must agree, I had concerns over how my rack holes didn't line up when I came to bolt it all up*, I got a phonecall back and he put my mind at ease entirely. Rack has been on for a couple of years now and no issues.

:*Turns out they allow some misalignment when loosely built so that there is tension in the whole setup once torqued up.. seems legit.

I got through to Givi by phone but not particularly helpful - they can sell me 2 blank keys or a new barrel and 2 keys but that's it. It was all a bit "computer says no".

I think I'll just try my luck at a locksmith to get a copy of the key my good fiend thumbup UnluckyTimmeh is sending

I've found fitting instructions online http://media.givi.it/Prodotti/istruzioni/340F.pdf so now know the bits I'm missing - items 3, 5, 6, 7 and 10; I can probably pick the bolts up so less concerned about them but does anybody have the spacers (items 3 & 5)?

The support bracket is item 2 - I still need to determine whether it's left or right that has the seized bolt in it but am on the lookout for 1!

Thanks Tim, much obliged. I'll be sure to send any future business your way.

With respect to the support bracket I now know it's the right 1 I would like to get a replacement for. I've tried the general phone number and email (info@givi.co.uk) to no avail so does anybody have a good contact for technical support?

I'll email & call Leanne at Givi. She's an absolute saint and has helped me with several of these before. Just to confirm it's the whole RH arm you need?

Will keep you posted smile

Thanks (again!) Tim, that would be great

It's just the right hand support bracket, as opposed to the whole arm, I'm after. Item 2 (well right hand equivalent of) on here http://media.givi.it/Prodotti/istruzioni/340F.pdf

Also the bolts and spacers (items 3, 5, 6, & 7) if at all possible

Timmeh, do you know if the barrels are the same for the monolock and monokey, and how much replacement lock sets are? I've got 2 sets of different sized monokey panniers and a monolock top box on 3 different keys. I keep wondering about replacing the locks on the whole lot so they're all on one key.

Hello

If the keys are a similar shape they will be. There are a couple that are different (the trekker boxes for one). You can buy lock sets no problem, but your best bet is to go to a local Givi dealer and see if they'll give you a few of the tumbler kits (spares inserts) and then just recode the barrels you've already got. You'd have to get the barrels out to change them anyway so you may as well give it a go. Or chat up your dealer to do it for you for a few beer tokens smile.

Hope this helps.
