What you Riding?
Great stuff, thanks, I'll pop by. I've not been on a bike much for a few years, let alone on track, so I'll be taking it easy at the back of the novice group on my SV1000. Will be in garage 37-38
What you Riding?

Hi, is anyone on here riding at Donington on Thursday this week (27th) during the day.
Decided a few months ago to book as I’ve never ridden Donny and aaa DC I’m retired I thought it was time. I used to spectate there for gp and wsb from the mid 80’s and my last trip there was 2000 for gp.
As is the norm for me the weather looks cr4p. I normally take a set of wets just in case.
What I’m curious about is if wet is the surface as slippery as folklore suggests?
Also garages, yes I know empty garages are on a first come basis but as I’m travelling up from Dover on that morning should there be delays en-route would all space have been taken and I’d be stuck outside or is there normally enough space to squeeze in and share?

Open question really and I suppose I already know the answer but here goes anyway. When is it time to step up to inters?
I did some trackdays a good few years ago then enduro and injuries took over. After about 6 years off, I did Snett last year then Cadwell last week.
Most of the days I've done have been on either a 600 or Ducati 848 but last week I decided to go on my Hypermotard 939.
Pace wise in the lower group at Cadwell, there were only 2 or 3 bikes who were passing me all day. I wasn't pushing myself beyond my comfort zone and thoroughly enjoyed it. The main source of frustration of being on a slower bike was the 1k bikes walking away on the straights but I seemed able to brake later and carry more corner speed.
Watching the pace of inters last week, I think I would have been fine but have that niggling worry about being surrounded by nothing but fast lads on thousands with slicks while I'm on an old 600 or a supermoto on supercorsas.

You’re ready when you feel like it. I’d suggest doing your first foray into Inters at a track you feel comfortable with and know well. That way you’ll know where the passing places are and are unlikely to be spooked as easily. However, the pace will be faster than you’ve experienced and possibly slower too. Inters is the worst group IMO. There will be a spread of people who are going to be very slow, quite probably a lot slower than you, alongside people who really should be in Fast group, but have little egos and can’t cope with not being the fastest in the group.
As long as you know the right line and can stick to it then you’ll be fine. Get ready to be passed a few more times than usual though.

I've been a very lucky boy and been on track 4 days in the last 7! I raced at Thruxton with NGRRC on my 1999 CBR600F and then went to Combe yesterday on my road bike (2018 Street Triple RS.) Other than last Thursday, I've been riding in gorgeous sun shine and had an absolute blast! First time riding the RS on track and I was impressed but once you get to a certain level, you can tell a few bits and pieces need changing to make it a proper weapon. For a road bike, it is absolutely mega!

Experienced in car trackdays and experienced road rider but very limited track experience on a bike, bar a few track 'skills' days over the years.
Recent Euro trip has really got me fired up to do more riding and tempted by doing a trackday end of this month beginning of next month, probably Brands Indy.
I have a '96 Fireblade, do I need to change the brake fluid of pads for track use, I will be wobbling about in the novice group?

You don't need to, but I would advise renewing the brake fluid. Especially if you don't know when it was last done, you can very quickly boil the fluid if its contaminated with water even on rather sedate laps.
Seriously? He’s not going out there to set lap records, I doubt he’ll ride much faster than he does on the road on his first trackday on a bike. Way too much overthinking going on. People really need to get back to just riding their bikes and enjoying them, instead of all this bluster over race prepping a bike for a basic trackday.
