Back from Bedford MSV trackday.

It might be great on a balmy Summer's day but 7'c, raining, windy and point & squirting the bike over a patchwork quilt of odd tarmac and puddles mostly devoid of reference markers meant my mates all nervously suggesting throwing in the towel at lunchtime. Normally I'm King of getting maximum VFM, doing every session etc. but I was only too happy to sod off.

Picked up a 2005 R1 trackbike off the Mr 'S' of BSB team FS-3 on the way up there. Only dealt with the Mr 'F' element who was lovely chap and was busy trying to get me interested in Shakey's 2014 BSB ZX-10 they are putting back together. Can't afford the (bargain IMO) £25k so old-ish R1 it was.

Didn't manage to run the newer bike (instead managing a heady 47 miles on the ancient R1) so newer one is being shipped out to Brno end of June hoping it's got all the gears etc. I did manage to throw it off it's stand so I need another screen at least - perfect end to a perfect day!

New month next week so onward and upward. I've also somehow agreed to buy a GSXR750 as well so sunshine and 4 bikes should equal some fun.
That would sit perfectly in my “sttest year ever” thread.

I thought you were genuinely buying a SS1000 bike from them. It’s amazing how they always try to upsell you. Lee Hardy was determined to sell me Jake Dixon’s BSB BMW from 2016 when I went to view the SS1000 bike I bought. He wanted £25k too. Must be the going rate for a bike that won’t get through noise testing, won’t work properly at my limited level and would cost a billion quid to fix when I inevitably drop it.

The Superstock bikes are fairly easy to move onto to the well heeled trackday crowd at mid to late teens. The BSB bikes are just a collection of über trick parts.

To be fair to Darren, he knew I was just there for the R1 so we got chatting about Shakey's R1. PBM obviously run a spreadsheet on all the parts and they are putting them all back in one lump. Every component - engine, forks, shock, calipers, even the brake pads as per his last outing on it. Not sure on body & paintwork - that might need recreating.

He asked me what I thought it was worth and I politely said £35k. He realistically said it was more likely £25k-ish which I thought was quite fair.

There's a 'bitsa' Airwaves Camier 2009 R1 that keeps failing to sell on eBay for similar money as well as a Virgin Hislop R1 failing to find it's value so north of £20k it's who will pay what.

What do you do with them? Display in the company foyer is a bit of a waste, trackday it and you risk everything.

Shakey himself is interested in it but not until end of season by which time they expect it to be gone.

How long since Shakey rode an R1? I thought he was ZX10 prior to the Ducati they run now.

Agree on the easy to shift, I’m one of those suckers, but the full fat BSB S1000RR was around a £90k build up for £25k. I think the Ducatis from PBM are pushing £250k if the rumour mill is to be believed.

R1 was just an old trackbike for the owner chap. He's now into his 1299's and McLarens.

End of 2014 (?) for the ZX10 I think when they made the move from Kawasakis to Ducatis. Paul Bird wanted to clear the decks and sold the FS-3 team absolutely everything Kawasaki related for a comically small figure and they wandered off with 4 Sprinters full of frames, engines, suspension, yokes, wheels, subframes, electronics etc etc.

Billy McConnell finished off a fair amount of stuff last year (£130k in 3 laps / 2 crashes was particularly memorable apparently).

FS-3 ran the original bikes for a year then obviously bought new stock and got the license to build the special bits (swingarms, tanks etc).

Ah right. Wrong end of the stick from me. Love that PBM just give it away.

The Billy McConnell story reminds me of Harry Hartley with Halsall at Snetterton. He didn’t get to race after destroying every bit of spare kit they had for two bikes before they’d even got to qualifying.

Harris Rearsets, brand new unused, Diamond rearsets, very well used and the discs from my spare wheels.

Got the original forks off it that had done 3k miles but I'm hanging onto them.

Might have some other bits and bobs but I'd have to have a look.

If you can compile a list and PM / FB it over with what you want for them, I'll have a look. Most of our trackday lot are now on that model R1 now (the next euro is going to be a 5VY cup) so even if I don't want them then I might know someone that does.

Edit. When you do (no rush) let us know whether rearsets are road or race pattern.
