Had a good day at oulton today. Proper crash fest though in every session. Took a session or two to get my head round revving the 600 our but after that felt ok. I was definitely a lot faster when I did track days regularly.

I'm really really tempted by a V4 but the tank shape is all wrong

That was an interesting day at Oulton.

Morning was soaking wet for the first session so used my old bike as it was already on wets with softened off suspension.

As expected several red flags in the first session compounded by some total ahole ignoring the chequered flag for three laps. His excuse? I didn’t think we’d had anywhere near 20 mins so I just carried on. Gobste.

Then a Novice rider crashed at the first chicane and emptied his sump all over the track. Result was 60 minute delay while they cleaned it up. Thankfully they decided to run through dinner so no time actually lost.

When we got out again it was nearly dry all round the track which wasn’t ideal as we all tiptoed round on wets with too soft suspension.

After that it was onto the new bike, swap to raceshift and go for it. fk me this bike is fast. Sadly I’m not. After a few tweaks of the suspension courtesy of John Ingram, it felt a lot better and just got stuck in.

Still a long way to go before I feel as comfortable as I did on the old bike but so far loving it.

One thing to say was the standard of riding across all groups was a disgrace. There were red flags in nearly every session, although Fast was most well behaved. Inters was a shocker they regularly had 2/3 red flags per session and often got less than one lap in a session as a result.

Still I’m happy, which is rare because I’m a grumpy old fker.

Sounds like fun, I had a run down into N Wales and was going to head over after lunch but got stuck rebuilding the brakes on my mates bike and ran out of time, blue sky from leaving home to Llandudno and back which I didn't expect, I should have brought the sunshine to Tarporley smile

No Limits. Matt was pissing himself when he was telling me about the tt who ignored the chequered flag as it was the first new excuse he’d heard in a few years.

The irony was that he was very clear in the briefing about the three chequered flags you’d see on the last lap.

This gobste wasn’t the only one though. There were probably more people missing the chequered / red flags on this day than I’ve seen in all my other Trackdays combined.

It was a proper st for people being dicks today. Every session was red flagged that I did so when you did get a clear run it then got ruined by a trip into the pits. I had to swap groups due to a technical issue with one of the bikes and rode in inters for the half the afternoon. It was pretty dodgy with idiots thinking they are winning, there were a few where I just backed off to let them go after their dodgy overtakes.

Was good to see you again, although twice in a month is a bit too much wink

The whole U.K. trackday thing seems to have been overtaken by dicks who like to rev their bikes a lot for no reason and be the fastest in pit lane.

Beginning to think you’re following me!

To be fair that’s biking in general in my experience. We had a tangle with a knob on an R6 on the way home. He was chasing us up the A640 but tip toeing round the corners which was pretty funny that he was slower than a Skoda Fabia doing the speed limit. We get onto a straight and he pins it past us, stops in a pub car park for us to go past and then does it again. What a weirdo!

I missed one yellow flag racing a few weeks ago going for a overtake.
That is literally the only time in thousands of Laps I have ever not seen a flag.

I mean ffs thats ridiculous and dangerous. That could be a red with a body on the track.

I mean ffs I even lifted off racing going into Duffus dip the other week because I confused a jcb Amber beacon light in the near by feild momentarily as a yellow.

Oulton seems to be a magnet for people that ride like a tt. Sure, they're pretty keen with the red flags there, but whenever I've been there, I've seen some truly ste riding. Overaking on the sighting laps, pulling out of the pits and straight over the left of the track over the blend line, red flags come out and people still overtake and ride like they're a pole lap.
Last time I was there on a trackday last summer, I think there was something like 19 red flags, and I don't think I got 15 laps all day in fast group..

George and I went to Donington today. It was flipping hammering it down for most of the morning. I don't mind riding in the rain, but this was cold and raining super hard, so we sat in the garage and drank tea. The sun came out at Lunchtime, so we got 3 properly dry sessions. I can't say I rode overly well, just like normal, but it was nice to on my bike in the dry as that's my first dry UK day this year
When I saw the forecast for rain all day, I'd have stayed in bed, but as I'd sold my spare bike and the lad was meeting me at the track to pick it up, I ended up going and glad I stuck around for the sunshine to come out

Is it an Oulton thing the total ignorance for flags and st riding? I’ve never had any issues at any other tracks in the UK.

As for the pits over revving thing I don’t get that either. One clown on my last visit was pretty much bouncing off the limiter ... fast group rider as well who should know better.

Our group might be struggling for Brno too. One guy needs to have an operation and work have put me on a training course.
Looking to see if we can switch to something later in the year.

Revving bikes in the pits has been going on for years, a good few years back at Croft I took the key out of a bike and threw it to the other side of the garage.

That went down well.

I must have been lucky at oulton because I've not been there when there's been a lot of Red flags

Donington seems to have a lot of Rec flags early on but gets better as the day progresses.

Croft seems to be the best for a lack of red flags.
