I've got to go up to Mayfair for a spot of lunch tomorrow and will probably take the bike.

Any suggestions on where's best to park, preferably free? I'll be heading up around lunch time so I suspect I won't get the spaces in the free bike bays - I understand these fill up quite quickly!

There is bugger all around Mayfair, in general.

Try around Berkeley Square but your best bet is to find a piece of spare ground up on the pathway where you wont restrict pedestrians and get creative. You cant get a ticket if you're not on the road, y'see.

Also, don't just chain your bike, chain it to something. Something solid.

Good luck.

There's also an NCP on the Bond St side of Berkeley square that seems secure. I would however still look to chain your bike to something once it's in there. I used to chain mine to a lamp-post in the bike parking area in then square itself, you just have to be aware of fvckwit moped rider parking.

Are you sure about this?

Didn't think you could park on the pavement in London, only thing is if you went across the pavement to some private property which just isn't cricket without permission IMO

In London it's an offence to park a motorbike on the pavement.

I used to park in Berkeley Sqaure. Normally a space on one the sides. Costs a pound now though, as does the rest of Westminster.

I can deal with the quid.

Pain in the arse having to lug the chain up with me however...that is if I can even find the bloody key!

Berkeley Square, diagonally opposite the Porsche centre. There are enough bikes crammed in there in there that you probably won't need a chain. Or just park it next to a nicer looking bike if possible.

I'd have thought that in Mayfair you could get a decent restaurant to organise some Vale parking.

If you haven't already, sign up with their Parking service beforehand. Let's you enter bike and Card details so the process is much easier when you get into town. Just a quick phone call once there.

Under which act?
Section 244 of the Highway Code. One I know only too well

Which surely makes it a Police matter? Like I said, you wont get a parking ticket and (mainly), the Met have better things to do.

The Met may have better things to do, but that doesn't stop the Local Authority or Transport for London using their own CEO's. I have had 4 tickets for parking off the road, in no instances was the bike causing an obstruction

Stay lucky!! I used to put my helmet bag over the number plate, but they gave the CEO's authority to do either remove them or have your bike removed. It nearly ended up with the police being called one day when I caught one poorly English speaking CEO trying to remove the bag covering my plate.
