And today's commuting highlight is...

Don;t often commute on my bike. This morning, I had the pleasure of riding behind a golf that was meandering between nearside and offside alarmingly. Traffic slowed, so I was trying to work out what side to pass on - turns out she was trying to apply her mascara...
Please tell me you stopped next to her at the next set of lights, took the pencil off her and jammed it in her eye!I've noted certain part of my journey are quieter given half term but then other parts like the limehouse link/highway heading into town are still are solid with traffic as a normal week. If they stopped all the bloody building work then the roads would be around 1/4 less crowded given the number of tipper trucks I see on this route each and every day - some of the standard of driving of these leave a lot to be desired too.
Loads of traffic in lots of places. Scooter accident on the A3 on the downslope going under Wimbledon roundabout. Not clear what happened but car firmly in middle of left carriageway. wing mirror broken off though looked like it had been pushed forward, small scrapes down drivers side, not much damage; scooter on central reservation a bit further down from the car, also not much damaged. Scooter rider on floor dazed trying to get up and others on scene trying to keep him lying down. Left leg wasn't moving, possibly badly bruised or broken. Helmet had been taken off and had damage on the top (??). I stopped to see if anyone needed any help but looked like people already there had everything under control so I moved off while a crowd gathered.
I'm guessing, from the wing mirror clue, that scooter might have gone a bit too fast trying to filter and clipped the car. There was a big queue before roadworks on west hill about 50 yards further down so possible that car braked for that and scooter travelling too close.. who knows, but speculation is fun.

If they're Mick George skip lorries keep well clear. Worst drivers on the road.Crazy scenes on the commute home... some old dude on a GS-type thing (wearing an open-face helmet too) came tearing up to a youth on a scooter from behind, pulled alongside, then used his might to herd the scooter in to a stone wall. It looked like a very well executed police manoeuver. I could see and hear him shouting at the scooter rider but couldn't make out what was being shouted.
I put it down to sun-aggravated shenanigans and left them to it.

I took the scenic route in - got stuck behind a curtain side lorry on a narrow back lane out in the sticks for a couple of miles. 40 limit, with overgrown trees going through some woodland. I had to keep really far back, as every time the lorry hit some overgrown branches, leaves & large pieces of branch were raining down on me!! No idea why such a big lorry was going down this lane - probably non-HGV satnav.....
Not looking for the commute home: I forgot my waterproofs & a mesh jacket is not funny in a thunderstorm.

My highlight was doing my normal 1hr+ commute in 45 mins and that included a visit to the village shop after I left home! Absolutely zero traffic anywhere.
Half term I guess and a Friday I'm at working at home today and my office is dead apparently - quicker if slightly less exciting than normal commute for me today.Looks like I was caught the other evening at the Bank junction....at least it's not a fine though!
Leaving from Moorgate and going over London Bridge it's a bh to remember to avoid though! - what's the point in banning bikes if your happy to let buses (and taxi's?) squash cyclists
Thankfully I'm early enough to miss the restitution in the morning but I just know I'll first and revert to going my "normal" way at some point (been doing it for years!)

Two major motorcycle accidents along my commuting route this morning, one unfortunately being fatal no full news yet but the rider bounced off the central reservation and was pronounced dead on the scene.
2 hours later a Harley got tangled up with a lorry, serious injuries involving broken leg but they are stable.
Both on the same stretch of A1(m) between Welwyn and Stevenage.
Really spooked the missus, who wants me to cancel my upcoming Scotland trip and stop riding. I'm sure she'll come round.

At least you got it as a nice warning letter - I suggest they haven't published they're not fining transgressions for the first month (I'm guessing) otherwise no one would take notice.Leaving from Moorgate and going over London Bridge it's a bh to remember to avoid though! - what's the point in banning bikes if your happy to let buses (and taxi's?) squash cyclists
