It’s been said on here before ... if you want to drive a car on the road then for safety awareness you have to start with passing the CBT. Even though the vast majority wouldn’t go on to buy a bike and ride it at least it would make them aware of us folk on 2 wheels.

Bless me, father commuter, for I have sinned.

It has been 12 months (ish) since my last mirror clip.

But I've done it twice in the past two days.

Do you want Our Fathers or Hail Marys?

Must admit I've been clipping the odd mirror recently. Normally I'm a pretty chilled commuter but the last week or so I've found myself getting increasingly frustrated at peoples inability to make reasonable progress on motorbikes or car drivers refusal to move over at not costs to themselves. Found myself shouting quite extreme expletives that shocked me.

Think I need a holiday, somewhere warm and sunny.

Bothers me slightly that with the amount of dashcams around these days, I'll get a letter from Plod about failure to stop. They were just little clicks tho, not smashes.

And I've done it. Just writing the above has made me realise I'm too stressed.

So I've just booked a week in Canaries, me and the Mrs, 600 quid. I'll drink a few beers, smoke a couple of cigars, eat a bit and sleep a lot.

Cheap and cheerful just the ticket to blow away the winter blues. Just got to get through next week without killing myself or someone else now cool

Nice! Enjoy. You could rent a bike, think there are some good roads there ...

I've been driving for 10 years but I've only recently passed my DAS and genuinely think CBT shouldn't exist and a full license should be mandatory - or at the very least a theory pass.

I think the CBT does get abused, it's a learners permit enabling you to learn to ride on the road but loads of teenagers are doing it and buying a 125 as cheap transport as car insurance is just crazy expensive (I think bike insurance will catch up though), you also get the cereal CBT's, adults who just keep renewing the CBT every two years instead of just sitting the A licence tests, speaking of which hope to get my Mod 2 done next month.
Saying that the MSF in America seems little more than a CBT, our DAS system is a lot more intensive which is a good thing, I heard that a lot of schools in America take the mirrors off the MSF bikes as they keep getting broken.

I think the MSF is even worse than that. There's no time on the roads at all, just a theory evening and a day riding around cones in a car park.

I'm too old and soft to commute on my bike.

But a big nod of respect to the chap on the immaculate 1960 BSA 500SS who has filtered past me every day this week, come rain or shine and despite all the crap and filth on the roads.

It's always nice to see an old bike on the roads, but to see a big British iron with 6v electrics and drum brakes splitting the lanes into Liverpool has really cheered me up.

He doesn't hang about, either.

And then you can jump on a hayabusa if you like. Bonkers!

Re the mirror cips. I've had two recently, both in Lewisham, one a transit deliberately moved across. Gave some abuse for that. The other was my mirror gently making contact with a bus.

Spooked my confidence and I think that makes you more likely to do it again.

The last couple of weeks I've been chilling on the way in. No need to ride like a scooter rider but going with enough zip to make some progress.

I went in at 10am today and the commute was so much nicer. No dealing with the morning tour de France or other many other bikers.

Wait until the summer and you'll see plenty of scooterists wearing all the right gear. Shorts, tshirt, flip flops.

My favourite is a guy I see on the Old Kent Road with one of those 3 wheelers with no lid. Rides like a prick but gets the right level of abuse from other riders at each set of lights. He says it's OK though as you don't need a lid on a tricycle Ffs. The law may say so but you've got to be retarded to do so.

Did anyone see that nasty accident on Thursday morning at the McDonald's on the OKR? The guy down didn't look good at all. Either knocked out or worse. Hope they are OK..

Spotted a police checkpoint on the D/C leading to Wandsworth bridge yesterday, they were stopping every bike and seemingly running checks. I hid on the blind side of a van so they didn't spot me until it was too late to ask me to pull over. I've got nothing to hide but I was already late for work, without having to entertain the police for 15 mins in the freezing cold.

Riding near my house this morning on the way to work a woman in a fiesta starts pulling out from a side road to my right, she's clearly not seen me so I sound the horn. Instead of braking she decides to swerve and hits a cyclist yikes I pulled over and fortunately the guy was unscathed and even the bike seemed fine even though she actually ran it over with her front wheels. They exchanged details and so I left them to it. No doubt I'll be making an appearance on YouTube later as the cyclist had a helmet cam...

Today's highlight (literally) has been three separate Triumph XC 800 things behind me with their lights on main beam. Headache inducing and really distracting. The blue light on the dash is a bit of a giveaway lads...

Usually this is the preserve of ped Bois who either don't know or care as they have no CBT, Just seems to have been three Triumphs today!

I must check my junk mail folder - it seems I missed the memo advising that today is National Bring-Your-Massive-Panniers-To-Work Day.

Every other bike I passed today was packed up as if they were on their way to Australia.

Mind you judging by the size of one guy I rather suspect that the panniers and top box were just there to hold his breakfast.

Is it a Sadiq Khan plan to clean up London air by shipping in box-loads of the stuff from the surrounding countryside?
