Could it be that they were slow/dull because the battery was on its way out and charging it has totally done for it?

The indicators on my old AR80 often failed due to a really crappy earth connection.

If I recall correctly there is a wire which earths where the indicators bolt on.

The slightest hint of corrosion and they packed up.

My money is on a poor cable crimp somewhere, disturbing it has increased the resistance. You don't need much to mess 6V electrics up...

Derek is fking with my head

I thought I would start at the beginning tonight, so I stuck the battery back in and connected it. Turned the ignition on ........ horn working. Brake lights....all good. Indicators......yes, no, yes,no.

I will systematically go round checking all connections, earth and change the fuse. The only thing that is not original on these is the earth. This has snapped at some point and had been rescrewed into the frame. All the connections I have touched so far are all tight and in their plastic sleeves.

Just to check it's not a bad earth connection try running a wire from the frame/indicator earth connection to the battery negative terminal. If it all comes good then the new earth point isn't working well.

I'm not sure how to break this news to you, but indicators are supposed to flash so when they're on, off, on, off then that's a good thing and they're working correctly

They only have an igniter...which I doubt would have an effect on the indicators wink

Oh. Well if not that then perhaps the side stand switch?

My money is on it being an earth issue. With only 6v, pushing it, the "electric trickery" can struggle to get past corrosion etc. where even the smallest change in connection/movement of connectors can make an apparent significant difference.

6 volt systems really are st aren't they?

It's the motoring equivalent of using a potato, a copper coin and a zinc nail to power a motorcycle.

Glad I wasn't the only one laugh

It's just a connection issue, high resistance somewhere, Unplug the connector and run a fresh lead right from the relay to the bulb and if that works you know there's something wrong with the bits inbetween.
If that's not it run a fresh lead from battery to relay, does that fix it?

Clean all the connections with a wire brush, clean em reeeall good, make sure all the fittings are tight, squish em flat with pliers, wedge some fine solder in to pad out loose female pins, or f**k the connectors off for new ones, or crimp the two wires together or whatever.

I had a 6V AR50 and CG125 which did that, new flasher relay solved the problem both times.

Stranger things have been known , a guy a work had a scooter where the cdi operated the indicators , didn't believe it until i had a look at the wiring diagram , luckily they were cheap .

Another option to polish your screen. I used this on my AT screen and it did exactly what it said on the label

That may have just made my day - many thanks!

Their site lists a host of great products, the paint scratch remover being the other 'need'! Have you used that by chance?
