How long does it take to line up a hole?
2 seconds. The pin is spring loaded so you fit the pin then roll the bike forward or backwards an inch until it clicks into a hole.

Just had a customer drop his xmax 400 to my shop after the police recovered it. Thieves had it for 3 months and have done 3000 miles on it. !!!!

It was starting and running on a non immobiliser yam key,and the key light on dash was on constantly.

A quick google reveals this.....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Immobiliser-Emulator-for...

Starts all yamahas with immobilisors. Id be going for 4x almax now !!!!

One question is this: How come car manufacturers have made it impossible to get a car running without the key, yet motorcycle manufacturers have not? (even without that emulator). Clearly many scooters are ridden around nicked so somehow they are getting the engine running without keys, which is not generally possible with a car.

Weight for starters, the equipment to make cars virtually unstealable is very bulky and heavy. Secondly cars are harder to break into, that's never going to be relevant on a bike.

its just code on the ecu that wont start the car if matched keys are not present, and i thought bikes had this now?

whats to stop them cutting it just after the bolt and pulling the remainder out with the lock / pin and key assembly?

Nothing. Whats to stop them cutting off a normal disk lock? Or cutting the actual disk?

If some scrote has a stihl saw (or equivalent) then there is nothing that can't be cut off (obviously)

Some (most?) do but it's not infallible. See the link above for starters. Keys/fobs aren't that hard to replicate with the right computer equipment.

The trouble is that the battery powered angle grinder has been a total game changer; a few years ago if your bike was locked up with a 19mm Pragmasis chain or similar it wasn't going anywhere, not without serious effort (there's a video on youtube of Zanx of VD breaking a set of 4' croppers on a big chain).

These days with the advent of these cursed things and the utterly brazen nature of the thieves we are seriously fked.

Like Facebook, the battery angle grinder is one genii that I wish I could put back in the bottle and make go away. Sadly won't happen frown

How does that work then?
Not sure I'd fancy having the bolt accidentaly "pop" into the front disc at 80mph !!
It'd do well to jump out of your pocket, into the slot and then pop into the front disc hehe
Did you consider what is actually being discussed ?.... look at the picture again.......

Apologies - I stand corrected, it removes completely , i thought it was fixed.....

Not sure if I've misunderstood how this device works or whether youve misunderstood what I said - the OP said he didnt want a device that he would have to carry in his pocket, therefore I assumed the device remains permanently bolted onto the caliper, hence my fear of the bolt activating while being ridden?

So can this device be unbolted and carried? If so, doesnt look like the most portable device?

The drive stats bolted to the bike, then pin is removed when unlocked and in your pocket. You fit that when you want to lock it. There is no way it can activate when riding.

The lock is bolted onto your caliper using the caliper mounting bolts. There is a removable pin which locks into a hole on the Roadlok when in use. When its not in use, the pin is completely removed, and you keep it in your pocket until you want to use it again.

Thieves attack a young guy on his bike and put a knife to him and stab him in the head with a screwdriver.

I sound old I know... but what the hell is going on?!

Another guy within a circle of people I know was chased by 2 T-Max's and a R1 to get his sport bike. Its out of control!

Bloody hell.

When will it stop.... how long before vigilantes up in arms.

Maybe when a few "thieves" get murdered attempting theft, they will stop...

I don't miss commuting in London , luckily no-one wanted to steal a 1998 ZX7R laugh

Commuting in London is actually ok by bike. Its just this bike theft and bike jacking situation is out of hand.

The 1998 ZX7R is probably a great choice for London, for that very reason. After my 90's sport bike thread I am on the lookout for an Aprilia RSV from the late 90's. Its too old to be of interest.

It was fun while it lasted, around 8 months. The ZX7 was faultless and very nice, stable and turning circle was never an issue.
Aprillia certainly would sound nicer. Not sure I trust the batteries smile

just by way of an update on the R1 that was stolen. Gefion insurance still hasn't paid out nearly two months later!! apparently waiting for a police report. like, go online. on the bright side, the police have said they have had a promising anonymous tip off so the case remains open. fingers crossed all round..
