Yawn.

It's clearly stating the fking obvious , there are minorities who spoil things everywhere in every walk of life ...
wkers are wkers - car , bike , walker , whatever , these ridiculous gross generalisations of Harley this , power ranger that , chav kids on scooters etc ....
Grow up, be less boring and accept it - thick arses are thick arses and always shall be , but groundbreaking news , this is not ...
Zzzzzzzz

I used to be really vociferous about bikes, in particular, overtaking on double whites.

But then I saw a number of my favourite roads get double whites in places where they'd had a dashed line and places where I always planned overtakes.

I'm now of the opinion that many double whites are advisory if you're on 2 wheels - yes, I know it's wrong and I know it's illegal, but applying double whites because some bikers and car drivers can't make safe decisions can make riding incredibly frustrating if you blindly follow the rules.

Just been out for a drive, about 15 miles normal town and country roads on a Sunday.

so in this time today ive seen a biker wheelie from a traffic light, a biker over take on double white lines and a few lots doing doing 50+ in a 30 mph zone.

And they wonder why they get a bad rep.
50 in a thirty is a no-no in my book. Wheelies off the lights are mainly to be encouraged but there is a time and place. And overtaking on double white lines doesn't even rate a mention.

I'm assuming everyone is aware that double white lines do not mean no overtaking, at least not if you're on a bike, you just can't cross them. So if a friendly car driver moves over giving you enough room to pass you can legally overtake, just not across the lines

What these solar powered cretins forget is that they do quite a lot of damage to the reputation of motorcycling for the few summer miles that they do. I've been know to take detour to avoid them.

You would have got further if you was on a bike and could overtake.

The appearance of them sir is not the issue.

It's the dB level that causes offence. And I know it's part of the 'look at me, I'm a hooligan and a rebel, so I have a noisy exhaust' but dear god it gives bikers an even worse rep. (And for the record, I've never liked noisy exhausts on cars either, it just makes the drivers look antisocial and a bit council)

Doesn't matter, lots of cars have ludicrous exhausts these days (everything from f-types to M4s to Caymans). Gives all car drivers a bad rep. Or maybe not.

All that annoys me, and I am also a biker, sometimes in the power ranger gear, is the special few that ride in 1st or 2nd gear with stubby exhausts on i4's through built areas, or elsewhere when ignoring the other gears in there. I lied, it's not all, then there are the stupid noisy Harley types, the bike style is ok but some are just too loud and pointless. Maybe worst of all is the 125 with what sounds like no exhaust at all taking ages to pass the house, or wringing it's neck and still taking minutes to clear the street. I used to think rev and go's sounded ste. Why make the bike so loud 'you' need earplugs to ride? I have fairly loud v twins, but they are silent compared to some junk bolted onto what might have been a good bike before, then there's the arrogant riding style.

We all go a bit quick, but as above, if over double whites and with no regard for anything around them at all, it isn't just anti social, it's pretty much anti biker.

Agreed with that. fking tossers go past my bedroom window usually just as I'm nodding off....furious
However, this thread is st. The whole point of biking is the feel-good factor/adrenaline rush. Sod the anti-social BS: providing you're not endangering others or revving the st out of your after-market pipe at stupid-o-clock, so what??? Join mumsnet as others have suggested
