Datatool S4 C1 red issues
Discussion
Hi all,
Had a Datatool s4 c1 red on my Kawasaki since new (2007)
come out to it today to start it up with a view to going out on it for the first time for a while, pressed the button on remote to disarm the alarm and nothing. Turned the ignition on thinking the whole bike was dead and the alarm started going off but cant disable via remote.
the remote light flashes when I press the button, dug out my spare remote which was totally dead, so switched the batterys so the spare remote has the working battery but still nothing.
so now I'm thinking its the actual alarm that is having the issues, anybody had this before? cant do anything with the bike until I can disarm it as its stupidly loud.

Had very similar issues on mine. You may not be aware but there is a huge product recall on the S4 Red alarm. Get in touch with Datatool via their facebook page or direct on the website. You can check if your serial number is affected on the site. If it is, they will replace the unit with a mobile fitter free of charge. The issue is apparently due to corrosion and leads to problems like you are experiencing.

Sounds like the unit in the bike and the fobs have forgotten each other due to lack of power.
I'd imagine you'll need to reprogram the fobs and there should be an online guide to do this but if you don't have any paperwork you may be missing a vital override code.
It wouldn't be the end of the world to take the system out. I doubt it would stop a theft and as you have found they are always a PIA at some point.

From my experience, quite often the problem can be with the installation rather than the alarm, so check the connections as it goes into the loom carefully too.
If it was mine, id rip it out, older alarms can be a PITA and with the bike being 10 years old, you probably dont need it now for insurance purposes?

I had an S4 C1 on my old striple R and to be honest I never had any issues. As someone else said I think the issues are generally down to poor installation.
Was installed brand new by DK Motorcycles in 2007 apart from the fact the battery drains very quickly its worked well.I had an S4 C1 on my old striple R and to be honest I never had any issues. As someone else said I think the issues are generally down to poor installation.

I found 2-3 weeks on a new battery without trickle charger and it wouldn't start! More excuse to use it more I suppose On a side note my car is above yours in the new V.W.G magazine
Just had a flick through! Awesome Leon
Best thing I learnt with bike alarms having had about 5 datatool or meta...get rid of them
Poxy things cause my grief than its worth over time
Fit a gps unit to it, if you are keeping to a budget for less than £50 you can get one that runs off Google maps and is very accurate plus can text or call you
If you have the money or ride in crap areas right now like London where you leave the bike then the better ones with a yearly or monthly subscription can literally get your bike back to you with the help of the police and company
A decent chain, disc lock and being savvy with where you keep it etc is all I do. A decent thief is gonna nick it, a chain just slows them down. Gps will find them but an alarm is just a nuisance in my opinion
