I haven't been riding much recently, in fact I SORNed my bike late last year when I started a new job and I'm not planning on unsorning it until summer. This is mainly due to having to fly to Scotland every week for work and working from home a few days, so no need bike for transport plus money is a bit tight so it is an unnecessary luxury insuring the bike for leisure rides only.

Instead for a hobby, I've been doing more rifle shooting which should appeal to a lot of bikers:
- Like bikes, you never really master shooting
- Once you get over the hurdle on installing a gun safe (mine displaced some of my wife's shoes), then storing your guns doesn't take up much room
- It is easier to have secure gun storage than secure bike storage
- It is very unlikely anyone will steal your guns
- Even if somebody does manage to steal them, the police really will try to find them
- Guns are much cheaper than bikes
- Ammunition is cheaper than bike running costs
- You don't have to insure your guns
- Just as every bike is different, every rifle is different, but it is a lot easier to try out a new rifle at your club
- You can 'forget' to mention to your wife you have bought a new gun, since only you have access to the safe
- Your wife won't notice if you have several guns, but she will complain if you have several bikes
- You are much less likely to be injured than riding a bike
- It's enjoyable even when raining or cold and you can shoot indoors or outdoors
- Guns never have electrical problems and rarely have mechanical problems
- You don't need any special clothes
- You can take your guns on holiday (BA charges about £50 to check in firearms)

I regret not taking the chance to buy a Lee Enfield .303 still wrapped in its grease paper 2 years ago. Yes, completely mint and unfired.

Trouble is, I've really struggled to find somewhere to fire anything bigger than a .22 up here in Norfolk until someone recently said i should speak to a gun shop in Harleston who look after the range where Combat Dealers seem to let fly with some heavy stuff.

I do absolutely agree its a great thing to pursue. I'm out in America in October and have a date with several ranges booked to fire my buddy's range of guns they have out there. Not that i am jealous of them!!

There must be a happy compromise here somewhere.

Have you considered shooting the wife and buying another bike...? smile

I really really really miss my trusty old M16. Its a shame gun ownership is frowned upon in the UK, whereas in certain other parts of the world, one is allowed to shoot dead scum such as fking bike thieves. Combining biking & guns: now there's a thought scratchchin Isn't Collin Edwards into that sort of thing? I think he listed beer & guns as his hobbies....

This, brilliant, I'm lucky as I have motorbikes and guns, road bike for dry weather, enduro bike for muddy fun and 12 bore for bored Sundays

I used to have a fiancee, a gun and an r1.

I now have none of these. Not sure where I went wrong.

Well he is a Texan, so beer and guns aren't really hobbies, more just daily life.....

I'm trying to talk myself out of adding a 300 Win Mag to the collection, and not doing a very good job at it... Hmmmm, heads over to Guntrader....

Not everyone used guns for this purpose, I've been a target shooter for the last 25+ years and never shot anything fluffy in that time.

Go and try shooting clays ( sporting - then skeet, then DTL, then olympic trap)

You'll see why its such a great sport very quickly.

I always carry my xdm 45 in my tank bag. Rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Some big guns are electronically primed and can fail. This week I replaced a bolt on an M230 due it being incorrectly timed. Which to be fair was human error.

BTW my wife likes shooting more than I do.

I love both. One should not take place of the other.

Here is my Walther pps 40s&w on my Strom.

Before moving into my current property where I shoot my rifles out back, I used to ride into the free ranges in the mountains with a gunslinger back pack on, fits an Ar15 with a collapsible stock.

5ohm, can you linkey to a good backpack for taking your gun to the range on a bike?

Obv this will be in the UK, so it can't look like you are carrying a gun to casual observers as interception by a police armed response unit isn't compatible with the relaxation obtained from a nice day's riding and shooting.

If you buy another rifle and the zombie apocalypse doesn't kick off you still have a nice rifle.

If you don't buy another rifle and the zombie apocalypse does kick off you're fked!

Best you buy another rifle, better safe than sorry smile
