Passed my Mod2 yesterday, and I feel very chuffed with myself.

Took my theory on the 9th March, few lessons, and I passed yesterday (24th April), so I'm ready to go.

I've put a deposit down on a Ducati Monster 821 Dark, which I'm collecting on Saturday.

It's going to be a very long week.

I've already got my stabilisers out and cleaned them up biggrin

Nice one. And nice choice!

Take it easy, and ride sensible.

Congratulations. Modern test is a total pain. Glad I did mine years ago. Great choice of bike. Ease yourself in, keep your wits about you, and most importantly enjoy it! You'll never love biking as much as the honeymoon period with your first big bike. :-)

Good bike choice (I'm a little bias).

If it's got a Rosso II on the back it'll wear quickly but they have plenty of grip when they are warmed up smile

Enjoy; perfect time of the year to get on a bike!

Congrats...thats a nice bike for a "starter" bike smile

Enjoy your first riding season and get a few thousand miles experience, then get some more training...and some more. You never stop learning; the test pass is just the start of the journey.

Thanks chaps.

I've been learning on an XJ6, so I'm intrigued to see how different it feels.

I chose the Monster based on how it fits (I'm a bit shorter), and how I liked the riding position. I also wanted an interesting naked (to me), so this seemed to tick the boxes.

I'm definitely super safety conscious, so won't be looking to set any lap records anywhere, I'm just after the biker 'feeling'. I've got nothing to prove to nobody (including myself), so I'll just take in the noise, smells, and feeling of it all.

My car gives me my speed thrills (C63), but I'm sure this will feel pretty brisk!

I've already inquired about further advanced rider training, and he recommended to wait 2000 miles til I book it. So I will probably give it a few months and look to get it booked.

Your monster is faster. :-)

It will also feel 10x faster.

I was going to say, the Monster will make the C63 feel like a wheezy old van in comparison, and I have nothing but love for the C63.

Well done on passing the tests. It's not the arduous task some make it out to be but it certainly takes a little while longer than the old tests if you don't gamble and book both parts on the same day.

Enjoy the new bike and take it easy.

Monster is always nice...but I fear you will want something with a bit more pep pretty soon.
If I were you I'd cancel and go for Monster 1200.

I'll be wanting more than 112hp!?

Christ, I'll see how I go with what I've got... I'm not looking to be a speed demon anyway.

bks! I mean, get that if you want, but the 821 is more than fast enough for a first bike. I tried both the 821 and 1200S (coming from a couple of years on an SV650) and the 821 felt like a huge step up, although the 1200S was obviously much faster.

The 821 will be much faster than most cars up to sane speeds, and is more than enough for a first bike.

Anyway, enjoy the bike garylythgoe, you're gonna love it!

More than enough for a first big bike...thats the same as a Ducati 916 "superbike" in the early 90s ...I guess they are too slow for new riders too now .....how times have changed...no doubt in another 20 years newbies will be riding 200bhp electric bikes during their test just to get acclimatised to the acceleration available wink

Well done and nice bike! Ducati makes a great looking, characterful motorcycle.

Good plan thumbup

I'd recommend doing a BikeSafe day after 1000 miles and then booking an advanced course after 2000 miles, as BikeSafe's an ideal intro (not to mention a fun day out biggrin ).

I agree with your post.

To support this agreement of mine - I mostly ride my 2002 CBR600F4i, with 109 nominal horsepowers at the crank at 12500rpm which I seldom reach, but more importantly 65nm at same rpm, that's quite a bit less than 821, and still I find that power more than enough for most occasions (I am also 105kg in gear), only above 2000m altitude does this old bird feel a bit breathless.

Still, I rode 1200R and yes it is powerful 160hp bike, but it felt really friendly and sweet (compared to, say, S1000R). Yes, it (the R, but even the S version) is more expensive than 821, but IMHO it looks better and offers more, and one will not think about upgrading for longer.

(I have nothing against 821, I ride 696 from time to time, and I find this little thing very exciting on winding roads above 4000rpm.)
