Do you all ride bikes from the 1950s? Why the need for all the spanners and stuff?

Just buy a good helmet and some good protective gear and ride & enjoy the bike.

You'll need a fuelling module and some pads for yours mind.

Agreed, newbie comes on asking for "must haves" and scottoilers and a multi meter gets thrown into the mix !

Apply the logic you applied to your pushbike maintenance OP and you wont go far wrong..you'll soon learn what you consider to be essentials as you go along...

True. Though some of the products mentioned are good to have as a newbie (e.g. crash bungs).

thumbup Although not a "product", I'd also argue that a BikeSafe day is a "must have" for a newbie.

Number for a good garage to turn a spanner.
Ear plugs.
Decent well fitted helmet.
Decent gloves - might want two sets for warm/cold mornings and evenings.
Decent lock/chain & disc lock.

Ear plugs.

Their benefit and level of protection is out of proportion to their size and cost!

Oh no you're not. I think your list made one major omission idea

The coolest way to get seen! We know high-viz isn't cool, but it is important that we are seen on the road. Spray Held 9607 Reflective Spray on your textiles and they will light up when you're in the dark.

Thanks for all the replies guys!

I had all my gear already, so I've now got a small list of chain cleaning/lube type products, a paddock stand on castor wheels for my garage, acf-50 and some decent cleaning spray for matte paint. I've ordered some ear plugs as it is indeed quite loud ha!

Absolutely over the moon with it smile

£200 a year extra I don't need to spend as I'm not keeping my bike to pass on to my grandchildren. It gets changed at the dealer at manufacturer recommended intervals and that's adequate.

Each to their own, but odd advice for a newbie I reckon.
