Bit of an odd one this ... my Fireblade has M4 calipers with standard brembo pads, Brembo ORO discs and a Brembo RCS19 MC with braided lines ... they feel superb as expected.

When braking hard from speed. I.e. motorway to town I get vibration through the front end and I can't work out what it could be... the lever stays constant, as do the brakes and in fact I simply thought it was the road surface through the tyre ... at low speeds it is fine.

A few months ago the forks were rebuilt, wheel bearings replaced as were the discs and pads and it didn't have this vibration.

Stripped and cleaned the brakes last night and it is still there.

Not sure where to go from here? Any ideas?

I'm wondering if the head bearings need looking at ...

I'd be checking the head bearings.

This. It's a result of all the 3rd gear wheelies you've been smacking down

Could be wrong as you keep that blade so clean, but I've had something similar and it turned out to be a couple of the bobbins where stuck in place on the disc. Get a bolt and nut in it and give it a turn, freed it off and the problem went away. Could be worth a check as it's an easy fix ?

Bobbins are fine ... as you rightly say its kept mint (most of time) and the brake discs have only done 2000 miles since replacement.

I wish... biggrin

£125 fitted for replacements or do myself ... if going to the hassle of checking them I might as well replace TBH.

de-weight and lift the front end.
See if there is friction when rotating or play when pulling wheel forward. Either is sign of bearings gone.

Id be doing the same. My second Mille did exactly this. Had discs checked, skimmed and still doing it. Tried pads, still doing it

At the point of selling and checked headstock. Turned out to be a knackered bearing and a slight bit of movement under hard pressure

If you do the bearings its worth looking at koyo tapered ones as the upgrade doesn't cost much.

Is it worth getting the front tyre rebalanced ?

Head bearings should be easy for you to change, loose ones you might hear a clunk when getting on the brakes.
Tight will show as it weaving when moving slowly, unlikely though a worn set will go loose.

Double check all the disc bobbins are free.

Also, if you have had wheel and brakes all off, are you sure you got the forks lined up before pinching the wheel up?

Can give similar results if you do it wrong, seemingly fine in steady riding, but at higher loads, front end wobbles.

It's easy to do and there are YouTube vids on it, basically needs compressing without using brakes to make sure the axle is central etc.

You may know all this, but if not, worth checking.

Honda tried fitting taper roller steering bearings once before on the blade, and then quickly reverted back to ball races. I'd personally stick to quality (preferably OEM) ball races.

Cheers All.

I'm going down the route of replacing the head bearings ... everything else is done so for the sake of £30 and a couple hours work I might as well rule them out.

OEM or HD taper bearings?

Just go OEM, they are just bearings and will outlast the amount of time you'll keep the bike.

I would check the headstock isn't oval or the frame bent.
